The money is a drop in the ocean to him but hopefully the damage to his reputation is irreparable and hopefully the Irish garda pick it up as a criminal case again.

This is why I would always counsel a woman who's raped by a much more powerful person to sue civilly and not criminally. Criminal lawsuits have a much higher burden of proof and IF he is found guilty (as a more powerful person with connections he probably won't) then his punishment might end up being some concoction that sees him do essentially zero jail time.

Meanwhile, she will have aged 10 years being grilled by defense attorneys, being slandered, under the microscope, and everything else, and she leaves with nothing other than the knowledge he has to do community service or whatever his light sentence is.

At least in a civil case, if she wins, having a lower burden of proof, she leaves with SOMETHING. If it was my daughter I would always keep her away from a criminal trial, where she stands nothing to gain, and direct her to a civil case, where she can get something for her troubles and where she has a higher chance of a guilty verdict.

Of course, we're not talking a home invader who beats and rapes random ppl, but a powerful, public figure who has "options" and isn't going to have a trial that is equally fair to both parties. If some violent crim breaks in and he's not connected and protected (as random guys who break in and rape usually aren't) then I see the cause for a criminal trial.

But a guy like Conor? Hit him in the pocketbook and the headlines. Make your one shot count.

No, I'm not liberal. Not by a longshot. This isn't because I believe all accusers. The details in the Hegseth case, for example, are hilarious. Obviously, that woman wasn't raped (if you read the police report it's almost hilarious). So I don't "believe all women" or any silly shit like that. I'm saying if my daughter WAS raped (I would 101% believe my daughter because I know her character), and the guy was rich or connected, I'd say to sue him civilly and not criminally.

Interesting. Apparently there was video of her hugging Lawrence after and hugging Conor and kissing his arm. Apparently she said the reason she was kissing Conor's arm after the rape was that she was blacked out and didn't know what she was doing.

Real bad look but I've been around women enough to KNOW that a woman can be raped and then try to suck up to her rapist, especially at first, in an attempt to rewrite the trauma as just rough, consensual sex. Not a good look, but I know women who have been abused in the past are capable of accepting and even facilitating ALL KINDS of abuse going forward. Stockholm syndrome is not rare in abused women.

Anyway, good on her. Glad she got something IF she did. I'm not sure how long her payout will be held up by his appeal. Or if he has more friends or connections at the appellate court level and can get off there more easily, etc..
