Media Conor/Chandler - Worst TUF Ever

Conor pushing Chandler.
As if he would fight with a necktie and a tight men's shirt. Chandler strangles him

I believe he took his (very small) jacket off after the push.

That's saying something as it's been bad for years.
When exactly do you claim TUF started getting bad? TUF 24 for instance was amazing.

To me the only truly pointless season was TUF 25. There was no point in giving those guys second chances. And even then, we were treated to a cinderalla run by Tom Gallicchio.

My last season watching was the Roy Nelson season.

Obviously with TUF the goal for the UFC is to increase audience exposure to their marketable/star coaches, and deliver hype for a fight between the two. Conor has, undoubtedly, been the biggest and best thing that has ever happened to the UFC. It's not a hot take to share that over the past few years that Conor's stardom has began to dim. So, did the UFC anticipate a highly marketable TUF return for Conor? Was the goal to rebrand and reinterest fans?

Or, was the goal exactly this? To showcase how dysfunctional and pathetic Conor is? It's no secret that the UFC loves to control the narrative and control their big stars. Conor has taken liberties that no other fighter has ever dreamed of for himself in the past. Was this TUF season a way to reign in Conor and control him on their terms? Conor is very clearly a junky. He's uncharismatic. His fighting ability has fallen off a cliff. He has no hunger and no aura. What is left? Is the only thing marketable about Conor the fact that he is a trainwreck? If the UFC didn't want him to look bad, they would have omitted much of the footage of Conor. They haven't (at least based on what has been produced). He comes off unhinged, inebriated, and entirely out of touch. The cherry on top of this embarrassment of a season is Conor's lack of discipline on the show in even the slightest sense. His team has lost out, he doesn't train them, and he just pops up and babbles incoherent motivational speeches and vanishes.

So what is it? Has this TUF season backfired, or is it going perfectly as planned?

Give me your take!

MODS, @HockeyBjj can you move this back? There are tons of unrelatedly to UFC posts in the regular forum… why go out of your way to move this which is entirely related?

Yeah Nah it was all planned that his guys would lose all their fights

Why do people care if McGregor isn't going to return? Half the luster is seeing Conor back in the ring, social media only goes so far.

Watching Conor now is like watching those old "Your brain on Drugs" commercials.

It's a little of both.

TUF has been a dead model for years, but Dana refuses to abandon it because it turned around the entire product at a time when Zuffa was about done with it and instead launched the company in a new direction which eventually they were able to sell for 4.02 Billion. So for him it's nostalgia, and he won't abandon it. Part of the problem is the Contender Series just works so much better, the other problem is, it's just not interesting anymore. TUF used to have drama, when fighting was still some what unknown and fighters didn't realize how big of an opportunity this was. Now everyone understands, the drama is limited and fans tuning in honestly just want to see the fights. So it's become this formulaic, somewhat boring show and every episode basically feels the same.

However, because Dana wont abandon it, the next best thing for it would be to get it back on TV, instead of streaming services where it's lingered for years now. Conor helped them achieve that through his star power, and they got it on the World Wide Leader in Sports nonetheless. However, has it backfired? Possibly. The ratings for it are not good, and you have to wonder if ESPN is going to put any future seasons on their flagship channel. Also, will this hurt the Contender Series chances of running weekly on ESPN? (I don't think so, but you never know). But then again, maybe ESPN had low expectations and this is meeting their demand, it's hard to tell without being in the room. Either way, I think they are pretty much getting what they expected out of TUF, and I'm sure they would have liked more viewers, but at the end of the day, they got the show on ESPN.

So, TLDR version, TUF is doing exactly what it was designed to do, and they managed to get it on a major channel. However, the ratings aren't good which is likely due to the show more than Conor's star power, but isn't really a good sign for either. As for calling it a backfire, it's probably too soon to tell, if it affects The Contender Series, then yes, if not then no, they got what they wanted out of it.

I mean ….all he needs is one win and he’s “ back “, not as far as title contention but back in public eye, for more than just allegedley raking chicks.

I honestly haven’t watched even a minute of it except for some tweets and shit in here. I said immediately when it was announced I wasn’t watching that shit.

I just can’t stand Conor anymore. I pretty much stand for everything he doesn’t.

But, the last season I fully watched was W125 crowning a champion. 2017, iirc. Where Nicco Montano fought Roxy in the finale because Sarge couldn’t make weight. Sijara cut her dreads once during the season to make weight. Not a good sign.

I just don’t really enjoy the format anymore. I prefer DWCS. A little back story vignette on each fighter and 5 fights in a cpl hours. Much better than 35 minutes of schlock and one fight per episode.

So it’s not that I just boycotted this season. I just don’t enjoy TUF like I used to. So I haven’t watched it for a few years. And they skipped a cpl/few years as well iirc.

Just my opinion.

I think it has backfired spectacularly.

I'll have to wait for the semi-finals to be over before I deem the show a colossal failure.

I seriously doubt they would calculate such a thing.

For all they knew he would shine and show a new side of him... I'm sure they would have preferred that, as then it's 'wow Conor's back, better than ever' and get to maximise that whole narrative.

It's more probable they expected / wanted what I just mentioned, but then... what happened, happened, and they're just showing it and milking IT for what it - is.

It's definitely not imploded.
<{danayeah}>

If anything, it's EXPLODED because all the indicators are through the fucking roof! But let's keep watching and see how this plays out.

You raise some good points. This season hasn't painted Conor in the most flattering light. Given how heavily edited it is, that MUST be exactly what they want or it would have never got out. Also remember Chandler saying something about how they made Conor seem worse in a certain instance by using footage from separate conversations. Wish I could remember where I saw it.
