Compilation of Fighters' Cage Weight (Redux)

Remember when we used to bet on weights? That was fun.

Well, that'd be obviously and provably wrong belief to have.

But whether or not they rehydrate that much? Yeah, good question. It's definitely on the higher end. But this is California policy
Where do you think 33 pounds is coming off of Holloway? Muscular fighters have the easiest time cutting weight because muscle is mostly water. Costa cuts 29 pounds and it is insanely tough for him. He is much bigger than Holloway. You seriously believe Holloway can cut 4 more pounds than him while being 3 weight classes below him?

Chandler at LW cuts 25 and he's said his cuts are very difficult, and if he was an inch taller he'd be fighting at WW.

Use common sense here.

First off, there is a difference (that people never specify) between cutting from walk around to weigh-in, or camp weight to weigh-in. But when you've got featherweights on record saying they've been upwards of 190 and lightweights at +200, yeah, losing 33 pounds is not that unbelievable. Remember that TJ was 8% bodyfat and lost nearly 30 pounds to make 125. It's not unicorns here.

Yes. this list is fighters cage weight. Their rehydrated weight they entered the cage at. What this list is claiming is that Holloway used his training camp to get down to ~178, and cut water weight down to 145.

If you think Holloway cuts and rehydrates more weight than Paulo Costa you're completely mental. IDGAF what Big John McCarthy says, he clearly misspoke or was talking out off his ass. A simple bit of common sense can tell you that it's simply not true.

Yes... it is..

You're free to reread.
I have trouble believing it's even possible a sub-200 pound guy can cut 33 pounds.

Answer my question and avoid the dumb semantics.

Paulo Costa cuts 29 pounds and is almost on death's door getting down to MW. Do you or do you not believe that Hollowaya cuts 4 more pounds while being 3 weight classes below with a very unfavorable body composition compared to him?

Then they misspoke.
Nope, it's literally on video.

Holloway being heavier than Khabib and Poirier cutting to FW is pure nonsense.
You do realize that fighters' weights change all the time, right? It's why I have years listed beside each fighter. Nurmagomedov was as low as 166 lbs when he fought McGregor, and was cutting 10 lbs more just a couple of years later.

I have trouble believing it's even possible a sub-200 pound guy can cut 33 pounds.
Poirier himself admitted to cutting 30 lbs for the Swanson fight; just because it's unbelievable to you doesn't mean it's untrue.

We saw both Holloway and Poirier in the cage and Dustin was noticeably bigger.
Remember how I told you that fighters' weights fluctuate? Well the Poirier fight took place two years after Holloway had cut from 178 lbs, it also took place after Holloway got pulled from the Ortega fight because he was slurring his words on television; so just because Holloway cut from 178 lbs back in 2017 doesn't mean he's still cutting from that amount, I just don't have a newer source for him yet (which is why I'm constantly updating this thread).

There are plenty of fighters who cut more percentage of their bodyweight than Costa.

For example, Costa cut 27.8 lbs which is a 13% cut; a 13% cut at Featherweight is 21.6 lbs.

(2017) Max Holloway: 178 lbs
(2019) Sheymon Moraes: 170.2 lbs
(2020) Edson Barboza: 170 lbs
(2020) Zabit Magomedsharipov: 169.8 lbs
(2019) Sodiq Yusuff: 169.2 lbs
(2019) Darren Elkins: 167.4 lbs
(2019) Mirsad Bektić: 166.8 lbs
(2019) Josh Emmett: 166.8 lbs
(2018) Alexander Volkanovski: 166.5 lbs
All of the above Featherweights are in that range (and in most cases exceed a 13% cut).

For frame of reference, this guy cuts more percentage bodyweight than Costa:

Any news on Oliveira's? Needs an update badly
Like all fighters who have a history of missing weight, he's tough to find, because most of the search results are talking about him missing weight instead of how much he actually cuts.

Maybe somebody could ask him on twitter. He actually responds often sometimes

Any guesses about Cannonier's cage weight (apologies if it's already been addressed and I missed it)?

I feel like he would be an interesting study for a thread like this given that the dude is a Heavyweight-turned-LHW-turned-MW. And he looks absolutely jacked at 185. Taking the other figures listed as gospel, I would be very surprised if his cage weight wasn't somewhere in the range of 207-212 pounds.

Would you rather believe official numbers or random sherdoggers "common sense"?

Costa cutting 29 pounds isn't really all that much, percentage-wise. My experience cutting weight is 10% of BW is fairly easy, 12-13 is were it gets difficult, but 15% is ver do able. I have known guys that have cut close to 20% over several days.
