Comic Book Discussion Thread Vol. 10

Pretty tired of the "here comes another almost unstoppable threat from outer space", with powers to dethrone gods but we know it's gonna fail and no Avenger will be killed in the battle.

Been reading "Fables" for a while now, around issue #66, I like it a lot.

What else are the Avengers going to fight, diabeetus?

I get what your saying, tho. Thats pretty much the reason I began branching off to Hellboy, BPRD, Powers, Chew, etc.

Has anyone read Secret Six by Gail Simone? The premise intrigues me, but I'm hesitant to read a comic written by a woman because I'm sexist like that.

Don't feel bad I'm kind of that way with books. I think every book written by a women is another Twilight or 50 shades of grey . >.> <.<

Checked out all the Outsiders GN at the local library. Other then the ugly cover art I'm finding the series to be really good. Is their a new Outsides for 52?

Speaking of which I picked up all the Outsiders and didn't realize I'm missing Volume 2. Don't you hate when the books aren't numbered.

Just finished reading Daredevil: Born Again (thanks for the suggestion, Dragonlord) and it was FANTASTIC. Never gave DD a chance before, but I might have to check a few more out.

On a different note, I've been reading a compilation of origin stories I picked up at the library, and, my god, some of them are so cheesy. I think the worst I've read so far is Kid Flash. Wonder Woman's isn't much better either.

Also, high five to the folks who finished Astonishing X-Men. Did you all end up with mad crushes on Kitty Pryde, too? :)

nobody chose iron man's side. nobody. had it been better written i may have.

i did enjoy the bitchslap thor laid on iron man. and that still could have happened without them ruining iron man to do it.

and we can also discuss the technical aspects outside the written comic itself. it was a complete money grab, labeling issues and titles that had literally no need. they have an entire x-men tpb for civil war that is entirely unnecessary. it would take one panel for emma frost to state her whole, leave us alone and we'll stay out of it...which is also a major fuck up given how mutants are treated by the populace in the marvel community and the obvious parallels with super hero registration.

the whole thing was just bad. and the problem is it overshadowed an incredible marvel crossover, annihilation.

1)You cannot, by definition, speak for everyone who read the comic, so quit trying to claim that no one supported Stark. For God's sake, there are fans who side with Dr Doom or the Red Skull, you really think nobody read CW and thought, "Well I can kinda see where Tony's coming from..."

2)I completely agree with you about the attempt to grab as much money as possible by spreading the story over all the different titles. To be honest, I only bought the Civil War comic. But then Marvel does this with every major Crossover. I would suspect DC does the same thing.

3)Annihilation was not my thing; I prefer most of my stories to be set on earth. Just personal preference. I'm not saying Annihilation was a bad story arc.

Born Again is one of the finest comics ever written. I can't even remember how often I've read it, and I still enjoy it every single time. And I'm not a DD fan either, but the writing is breathtakingly good.

"There is no corpse.

For six hours, this thought has been ringing through his skull. The man he thought he'd murdered...so painstakingly, so methodically, relishing every precious step...from Murdoch's financial ruin to his emotional dismemberment...to that moment of savage ecstasy when the Kingpin's fists tore through him cracking bone...

The man he thought he'd murdered is alive.

Six hours spent sweating and straining, seeking the limits of his own inhuman strength. Seeking that place past the thought.

There is no corpse.

What was it about Murdoch? He was a minor concern. A promising talent to observed and cataloged and even occasionally flattered...

And perhaps, one day, to be turned to the Kingpin's way.

But now he is more than this. Now he is much more than this. He always was.

And I...I have shown him...that a man without hope...

Is a man without fear."

nobody rooted for stark. even you guys trying to defend (and failing) the storyline have said you were rooting for the anti-reg guys. i don't know why you can't just be honest with yourself and admit you dropped $30.00 on a shitty crossover marvel conned us into buying by pretending it was hero vs. hero when they immediately made stark a villain.

If you liked Born Again, try the earlier Daredevil run by Frank Miller.

Um, not really.

Again, that is far too sweeping a statement to make. Yes, I was rooting for Cap's Resistance. But, unlike you, I'm not arrogant enough to believe everyone shared my viewpoint.

As I stated previously, the story was flawed in several areas. It's not Miller's best work, but even on a bad day he's better than most writers out there. You obviously enjoyed Annihilation; I couldn't get past the first issue.

To quote The Dude, "That's just, like, your opinion, man.":icon_chee

it isn't my viewpoint, that's the thing. it's the collective viewpoint of the marvel comic reading public, every single one of them. nobody chose stark's side. nobody.

What comics did everyone get today? I got...

Action Comics (I hope Morrison leaving didn't send this down the shitter)
Aquaman
Detective Comics
Earth 2
Green Arrow
Harbinger Wars
Superior Spider-Man

Today was a good day for DCfanboys like myself.

I only picked up Earth 2 and Green Arrow. I've been budgeting my comic book money and being picky lately. This is until I find another job.

This is coming from a different perspective. I didn't read comics when Civil War was released. I only watched comic book films and cartoons. When I read the synopsis for Civil War, without even thinking, I was on Cap's side. I told my brother and non comic reading friends about it and they chose Cap's side too. So coming from a past non-comic reader, I did not see how anyone could choose Tony over Cap.

The job market is schizo right now.

nobody took stark's side. and i say that literally. most people would rather forget iron man was ever involved in that storyline. and it's clear marvel is pretending spider-man never was.

Yeah I know. I had some temporary personal issues that restricted my availability a little bit. The jobs I applied to wouldn't hire me because of it. Some didn't call me back and one even completely lied to my face. They told me the position I applied for was not available.

I see fans wanting the Civil War storyline to be adapted into an Avengers movie. I'm thinking, "Why the hell do you want to turn Marvel's most popular hero right now into the most hated? No one will like Stark after that."

i trust in joss whedon. if they do it, he will make it work out much better than the comics played out.

I feel sorry for anyone not reading Harbinger Wars. This story is becoming more and more awesome with each new issue.
