Daredevil: Mark Waid Vol. 1-Current - Waid's Daredevil has received high praise and rightly so.

2nd Edit: Just read that you already caught up with most of the DD books.

Yes I've read everything on your list and more except for the Waid run because I'm not chronologically there yet. :)

Just bought the Jupiters Legacy tpb can't wait to read it. Just read the first issue.

Quitely decided to work really slooooowwwwly again so that story isn't being finished for a long time. But I sent a telepathic message to Millar that I hate fill in artists and he listened. So instead he's making a prequel series to fill the time.

Great book (Jupiter's Legacy). I think I read the first 2-3 issues and I just forgot to finish the whole thing due to the delays.

Now that it's being turned into a movie, I'm more hesitant in finishing it.

Is Mark Millar the most successful comic book writer to date????

I mean he has so many properties that are being turned into movies and his comic book work has sold like no other.

Just look at Civil War and the Ultimates, especially CW. Other than Bendis no one has sold comic books the way Millar has.

Bendis basically had the number 1 book for 10 straight years (new avengers). If you go back and look through the sales numbers the only books to beat New Avengers were issue 1s and special crossover issues like Infinite Crisis or Spidey one more day, things like that. Other than that nothing beat New Avengers. No monthlies this for sure. Possibly Batman here and there would top it but never consistently.

That's fine by me. I don't mind waiting for Quitely. I love his art.

You can rush things and you get guys like Igor Kordy *coug cough* ruining new x-men.

Has anyone read the Darth Vader series? I saw a few scans and it looks pretty good.

I have every issue and it's AWESOME.

ITs the best Star Wars title going right now. Even better than Star Wars (which is also very good).

Also the art is damn good on it.

I think once Secret Wars starts I'll be dropping titles and collecting all the Star Wars comics.

A Lando Calrissian mini series is in the works now, written by Charles Soule

How many issues are out now, like 5? I've been wanting to go to the comic store but I don't think they'll have back issues. I also do not want to wait for the TPB.

Soule is money. Anything he touches turns to gold.

Number 5 is coming out but not out yet. (If I'm not mistaken which I don't think I am)

If u go to a good comic book store they'll still be selling issues 1-4 on the stands at regular cover price. The store I go to does this than they eventually put them into the back issue bins.

The only problem is issue 3 is damn near impossible to find in stock. I got lucky and hey had a few copies hanging around and since I go often they let me have one at cover price. It introduces a new female character who helps Darth Vader.

What's awesome about this is how we see the Emperor crapping on Vader after the destruction of the first death stR by the rebels. He kind of gets demoted and we see his inner turmoil going forward.

I'll be honest the Emperor is the most evil twisted piece of shit ever. He really is one of the most evil bad guys there ever was.

possibly, although Stan Lee, Alan Moore (although he will deny it), Goyer (I know inconsistent), and Whedon can be argued in some ways which I think you're measuring success (comics, tv, movies, sales, legacy)

In terms of a pure comic book writer, I think Moore, Miller, Johns, Wolfman, X. Hernandez, and Morrison are up there

future, maybe Azzarello, Snyder, and Lemire

no doubt Millar has a solid place

Millar is probably the most successful in terms of dollars direct into his pocket, given the breadth of creator-owned work. I count Goyer as a screenwriter. I tend to think Marvel and not Stan Lee benefits from his work.

Comic book writers and artists by and large get hosed unless they got a stake in ownership.

Not sure how the modern era would stack up to say, Herg

Ya a lot of those guys would be up there. Also Geoff Johns and Bendis. Who was basically the best selling writer in comics for about 10 years.

But I think Millar has just so many things in the works to be converted to tv or cinema he takes the cake.

Below are some of Mark Millar's works being scooped up in the past two years (not including Nemesis, War Heroes, Supercrooks).

I'm considering making a Millarworld thread just to keep track of his movie projects.

Fox Set to Adapt Mark Millar's KINDERGARTEN HEROES

20th-Century-Fox-Kindergarten-Heroes-Dragonlord.jpg

Deadline has word that Fox has picked up Mark Millar's forthcoming family friendly comic Kindergarten Heroes for a feature film adaptation which Simon Kinberg (writer of X-Men: Days of Future Past, Sherlock Holmes) will produce and Carter Blanchard (Spy Hunter) will write. In what sounds like a spin-off of The Incredibles, Millar told Comic Book Resources:

"All I'll say is that it does what it says on the box, which is that this is the kindergarten where all the superheroes leave their toddlers when they go on their adventures. We never see the parents, so we can assume that these kids are the super-powered off-spring of all your favorite heroes. It's very cute and their little adventures, in terms of tone, would be similar to Pixar."

"I'm trying to make it genuinely funny, genuinely exciting and genuinely dramatic when it needs to be. Pixar is pretty beat-perfect in terms of doing something that doesn't alienate the adults or the kids and that's what I'm trying to do here. I'd like my readers to buy this for their kids or little brothers and sisters, but at the same time really enjoy it themselves."

Fox and Matthew Vaughn to Adapt Mark Millar's SUPERIOR

20th-Century-Fox-Superior-041514-Dragonlord.jpg

Twentieth Century Fox is feeling Superior. The studio has picked up Superior, the comic book limited series written by Mark Millar and drawn by Leinil Francis Yu, for an adaptation to be produced by Matthew Vaughn. The comic was published between 2010 and 2012 via Icon Comics, a creator-owned imprint from Marvel. A search for a writer to adapt the material will now begin.

The comic centers on a popular and athletic 12-year-old boy who loses his social life when he is stricken by multiple sclerosis. One night, an alien monkey grants the boy one wish and he chooses to become his favorite superhero, a Superman-like character named Superior. After relishing his new life as a hero, the boy discovers that the monkey is actually a demon from Hell and he must sell his soul if he is to remain the powerful hero -- or return to his original body.

Mark Millar Comic MPH Optioned by Lorenzo di Bonaventura

MPH-Mr-Springfield-Dragonlord.jpg

MPH, the latest comic from creator Mark Millar, is also the latest to get Hollywood attention. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, whose recent credits include the Transformers and G.I. Joe movies as well as comic book adaptation Red, has optioned the screen rights to the comic, which Millar co-created with Duncan Fegredo (who was a storyboard artist on Darren Aronofsky's Noah).

MPH centers on four 19-year olds who get their hands on a street drug that gives them the ability to move at light-speed for seven days. The first issue is due to come out May 21 from Image Comics. Millar says the MPH is the last of his books that comprise his Millarworld of titles (which include among others Starlight, already set up at Fox; The Secret Service, coming to a theatre near you later this year; Kick-Ass, already made into two movies; and Jupiter's Legacy, whose rights he's holding on to for now) that will have their screen rights available until 2015.

Gary Whitta to Pen Adaptation of Mark Millar's STARLIGHT

Gary-Whitta-Starlight-1-Dragonlord.jpg

Gary Whitta (The Book of Eli) has already nabbed one of the hottest writing gigs out there, penning Gareth Edwards' Star Wars stand-alone film, and now he's signed on to work on another hot space hero project. Whitta will write the script for Fox's Starlight, based on the comic from Wanted and Kick-Ass creator Mark Millar.

The comic, drawn by Goran Parlov, centers on a space hero, Duke McQueen, who saved the universe four decades ago but came back to Earth, where no one believed his fantastic stories. But years later, after he's settled down and grown up, he's recruited for one last adventure.

The first issue from Image Comics came out in March and launched the much-anticipated Millarworld Universe. Starlight #5 hit shelves on Aug. 13. Fox picked up the project for adaptation in late 2013. Simon Kinberg, who worked on X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past, will produce, reuniting him with Millar as he's also producing an adaptation of Millar

He is pretty fucked up. Have you watched the Clone Wars TV show? If you haven't, it is certainly a must watch for stars wars fans. It did justice for Pre-Vader Anakin Skywalker (unlike the films).

Anyway, I'll give my local shops a ring tomorrow to see what they have in stock. Thanks for the info.

I'd add Frank Miller and Robert Kirkman. They're making money.

Honorable mentions: Peter David, Mike Mignola, Todd McFarlane (throws up), and yes everyone's favorite artist/writer/creator Rob "The Picasso of Comic Books" Liefeld

Thanks Dragon..

Ya this pretty much sums up how successful Millar is...

He writes things that are easily turned into cinema.. He does what all current writers wish they could do.. Create original properties and than sell them off to a major studio..

Im waiting patiently for Ellis to adapt Planetary for the big screen. A 2 parter like Kill Bill all done by an excellent director..

My Walt Simonson Orion omnibus arrived in the mail today. Who's jealous?
