I hate to sound whiny but I'm making my way slowly through "Age of Apocalypse" and it's kind of boring me.. :(
I would only recommend the GENERATION NEXT or whatever it was called from that. Have you read Barry Windsor-Smith's WEAPON X saga? Hands down the best Wolverine story ever written? And drawn?

I don't mean to oversell....

I think the generation next mini series is part of the age of apocalypse reading order. There are like a dozen mini series that make it up with 4 issues a piece with a few random issues at the beginning and ending. It just seems a little oversaturated.

I haven't read weapon x i'll check it out if I ever finish AoA :icon_lol:

I never like multititle crossovers due to the melting pot of artists. They throw in some half ass utility players in order to meet deadlines. I think the era just before this was an apex of X creativity, when you still had Claremont on writing, and Lee, Portacio, Sylvestri, etc. cooking up the art.

Over saturated is an apt word for the Scott Lobdell days.

WOLVERINE 10 is greatness. Larry Hama wrote some other solid Wolvie stories, and he's the guy behind GI JOE.

I just read Bedlam.

Story goes: Bedlam, like Gotham, has a Joker, called Madder Red, and a superhero, The First. Madder Red terrorizes the city until he is believed to have died in an explosion. Truth be told, Madder Red is rescued by a shady doctor hell bent on fixing criminals. For ten years, Madder Red forcibly goes through the Doctor's rehabilitation process. Once finished, the former villain becomes Fillmore Press, a man incapable of harming a fly. But just as he emerges to the world as a human being, the city falls victim to a series of cruel murders, and Fillmore Press decides that the only way to atone for what Madder Red did, is to help the cops find the culprit.

Damn nice. Artwork could have been better, but it delivers.

So Spawn is getting redesigned and now he looks just like Venom with a cape and big japanese style sword, sucks balls IMO.

McFarlane should do with Spawn what Liefeld did with some of his properties and hand it over to some indie writers/artists and let them go crazy with it. That's how we ended up with the sweetness that is Prophet.

Finished Kingdom come. How many people talked about this, i must say i'm dissapointed. Yeah, the concept is great, but I didn't like the artwork (at times it just looks like a complete mess, and sometimes you can't recognize characters, especially in a fight) and the entire story just feels rushed. I didn't get the tension buildup (to explain why some characters feel the way they feel). I could've left the comic at the middle of Chapter 3 and wouldn't care less about it...

I'm aware this is a rather unpopular opinion so flame on...

Who else thinks Fear Agent is some of the best space opera since Star Wars? Regardless of medium.

I mentioned it in a previous version of this thread and only a few people had heard about it if I recall. Damn Shame. It should be mandatory reading, IMO.

If you do not read this, we cannot be mates.

On the plus side, the story is completed and all the issues have been compiled in the two completely gorgeous collections.

This is always outta print when I go to buy it on Amazon.

It probably would matter more and make more sense if you had read it 20 years ago. It hasn't held up as well as Earth X, Marvel's version of Kingdom Come, imo.

Gonna have to get my hands on Bedlam and Fear Agent, thanks gents.

1. Agree w TGF, as awesome as AoA was real time, GenerationNeXt is the only part that doesn't seem dated (dat Bachalo) and is the most stand alone arc.

2. Anybody who can't appreciate Alex Ross' artwork in Kingdom Come should listen to comics on tape.

3. Great idea for Todd McFarlane to delegate his franchise to a more capable and creative team ala Liefeld/Prophet.

4. Fear Agent is amazing. I almost cracked it open again the other night but opted to reread Powers.

This man knows. It's so good it probably ruined Remenders other work for me. I got a couple other things thinking he was some sort of unheralded genius. Mind you, nothing I read from him was remotely bad, but nothing came close to the sheer awesome of FA. One of my all time faves.

So I'm interested in collecting Walt Simonson's Thor, but the omnibus is out of my price range and there's also the fact I'm not a big fan of the modern coloring done for the omni and the recent trades that followed it. So my question for those knowledgable about this is which trades should I buy if I want the original coloring or at least not the coloring done for the new trades and omni? Would it be the Visionaries series?

The Visionaries volumes is probably the old style coloring. I read the Simonson Omnibus last year and it was taxing but awesome. Some of the coloring took some getting used to, very vibrant and loud at times. I have the old Ballad of Beta Ray Bill trade from the late 80's/90's so I was comparing the two. In some ways I feel they touched up the Omnibus too much but images like the Surtur-Odin battle look amazing.

The pages I saw online from the omnibus looked alright with the coloring, but it just seemed to kind of mute Simonson's awesome art a bit. I read his Thor run online last year with the original coloring I believe and it just looks so much better to me and I would love to own the trades that have the original coloring. But I'm having a bitch of a time figuring out if those Visionaries trades have the original coloring or not. I can't even find pictures online of the interior pages.
