How many rounds did you give Colby overall?

Heard Colby mention in an interview that while Usman has 2 wins over him, Colby has 5, arguably 6 rounds over Usman, and upon rewatching the fights very thoroughly, I agree with him.

Not to beat a dead horse, but this in response to Sherdoggers questioning why George and Coby are headlining a PPV. I think it's now justified in light of this new information (thanks to Covington's performances).

5 or 6? I don't think so. I'd have to go back and watch, but I think you'd be pretty hard pressed to give him more than 2 rounds in each of the fights. 4 is probably reasonable. He never really hurt Usman or had him in any trouble though, while Usman did a lot of damage to Colby and definitively won both fights. I do still believe Colby is the 2nd best WW in the world, but I don't really ever see him beating Usman, who just has such a strength and power advantage.

I agree with everything you said except the part about him being the second best WW. He very well may be but I just think the jury is still out on that until he fights a relevant contender or two, which is something he hasn’t done in about four years.

First Fight
Rd 1: Covington 10-9
Rd 2: Toss-up 10-10
Rd 3: Usman 10-9
Rd 4: Toss-up 10-10
Rd 5: Usman 10-8

Second Fight
Rd 1: Usman 10-9
Rd 2: Usman 10-8
Rd 3: Covington 10-9
Rd 4: Covington 10-9
Rd 5: Covington 10-9

I had it close to this.

1st fight, i gave Colby the 2nd and Usman the 4th.

2nd fight, i'm the exact same.

So I have Colby winning 5 rounds.

Round 4 in the 1st fight was a toss up? GTFO, Colby won that round handily.

Look it's a valid statement that he won a lot of rounds.

And it is something he and his coaches should look at and be proud of and say, "we can do a lot with that."

But that's where it should stay.
Saying that publicly just makes him look like an idiot because he got TKO'd with his face all fucked up and then got UD'd, was outstruck in both fights overall, took more damage, knocked down 4 times and taken down. He was beaten twice decisively.

But sure, he won some rounds off a dominant champ and that's not nothing.

This is pretty meaningless, but he’s won 4, 5 rounds if being generous. But he’s behind in basically every metric to Usman. Losing 0-4 when it comes to knockdowns, less strikes landed, less takedowns landed, lost one by stoppage. Usman has the one up in basically every conceivable way.

He marginally out pointed Usman while causing little effective damage.

The rounds Marty won were devastating - knockdowns and obviously damaging attacks.

Its one of those weird things where it looks reasonably competitive if you just looked at stats, but when you watch it one guy gets beat up pretty badly.
