Yes, areas of Cali are facing water crises as well. So are every State that use the Colorado River. There has been some reprieve the last 2 seasons because of heavy storms which have revitalized lakes, but that's not going to counter the effects of a 10-year drought. Meanwhile the real estate industry are still doing stupid things like building houses with non-native grass lawns in desert climates because "well, people want to buy houses with lawns."

Most people take regulation for granted when they live in societies where the main commercial focus is always comfort, convenience, and aesthetic, however this is paired with large-scale commercialism. This became a subject of interest to me when I discovered Strong Towns, because that movement is also big on sustainability.
