Ciryl Gane will school Jon Jones

Jones:

3 years inactive
Closer to 40 than 30
Been hugely successful, maybe not as hungry
Many of his opponents were easily discouraged
4/6 favourite, ATG, "undefeated" = more pressure
HW debut, has to bulk up (will his body adjust well?)
Career 205 pounder, made a career bullying midgets
DQ'd against Hamill, DQ-worthy offence against Smith
Every fighter/coach/ref has been watching him for ages
Failed to stop his last 3 opponents, no finish/KD since 2018
Lots of wear; pro debut in 2008, 15 title fights with 8 decisions
History of problems with the law, including in the last few years
History of problems with alcohol, sex and drugs, including in the last few years

Jones' last two performances have been close decisions (Santos, Reyes) and 6'4 strikers have given him his toughest and most competitive fights (Gustafsson 1, Reyes).

Gane is an active, prime, determined, disciplined, athletic, 247 lbs natural heavyweight, 6'4 with an 81 inch reach and is possibly the most skilled striker Jones will ever face, with experience in a very close 5 round distance fight in his championship debut against a much more dangerous opponent in Ngannou (who Jones probably wouldn’t ever fight).

"But wrestling"

Ngannou (who also took Stipe down) was able to take Gane down primarily because of his size and strength advantages and because Gane had to worry first and foremost about Ngannou's power, factors that won't be present at all against Jones. Gane will have also improved his wrestling in the 14 month gap. Jones scored just 2 TD's in 10 attempts with 101 seconds of control in 50 minutes against former welterweight Santos and greenhorn Reyes, men who are easier to grapple against than Gane and who’ve gone 1-7 post-Jones.
^This. It's utterly baffling how stuck in the past a lot of this board is. Jones hasn't looked good in at least half a decade and that's when he popped. Because a physical freak like Francis took him down all of a sudden Jon is going to turn into Prime GSP against Gane despite not looking dominant wrestling in ages. Gane is going to put it on Jon. I'll be laughing my way to the bank.
Gane is bigger, stronger, tougher, more dangerous, and hungrier. I’m LOVING how hyped everyone is to see Jones win. It will make his loss that much sweeter.

Jones was 2 of 9 for takedowns against Reyes and 0 of 1 against Santos. In those two fights, Jones really did look like his best days were behind him and that was 3 years ago. It sounds weird saying it because Jones was so good at MMA wrestling, but at this point, taking Gane down seems far from guaranteed and I just don't see Jones winning a stand up battle in this one. I've never picked against Jones, but this one at the very least feels like a 50/50 fight considering the layoff and Jones' prior struggles.
Part of the problem is that all these people are still heavily influenced by what they saw a roided Jones do at LHW. When fighters fall off, they fall off in brutal fashion, and all the idiots look around at each other in shock. Jones’s best years are well behind him and this fight is going to be a brutal wake up call. The shock on his fans’ faces will be epic.

There is no fucking way he’s surviving five rounds with Gane. No fucking way.
No fucking way said this retard lmao

I’ll tell you the truth. Gane would have KO’d Jones no problem had it been a stand up battle. But Jones knew that so he took him down ASAP. I had no idea Gane’s ground game was that bad. I was completely shocked at how little skill he has with grappling and submission defense.

Jones was the aggressor in the standup and winning the standup before the takedown too.

Stand up battel ? It's not a kick boxing match.

Yes he was the aggressor, but he definitely wasn’t winning. It was a feeling out process. Gane thought it would be a stand up battle, but he was dead wrong.

Well all of Jones’s and Gane’s recent fights were stand up wars. There wasn’t any reason to think this would be different. I guess Ngannou proved Gane could be taken down, but nobody knew how bad his ground game was. Of course, Jones is a better submission fighter than Ngannou. But man, Gane had ZERO defense. It was embarrassingly bad.

So Gane would have won if they completed in another sport? C'mon man

No man! If he had been able to keep it standing. He’s clearly the inferior fighter. But he’s looked damn good in all his recent stand up battles. And if he had some tdd and even minimal grappling skills or submission defense, he’d have at least not gotten embarrassed as quickly as he did.

I support you 100% here is why
Everything seems normal to an average person but here’s my professional opinion Jon is doing some spinning around and Gane just watches him as if they were sparring instead of attacking but then at 1.30 is the real problem to comprehend Gane throws a left and doesn’t bounce as if he is waiting for Jon to take his back but to make matters worse, Gane is a kickboxer/MT practitioner and yet he didn’t even try to elbow Jon’s head right there by his side, so instead he goes to his back so he could get mounted. Then he let’s Jon take him to the fence instead of wiggling his way out and finally instead of gripping both Jon’s arms he just gives him his neck. To me that’s completely not normal for a pro fighter who’s supposedly trained with Russian wrestler high caliber. These are my issues with this fight and if you can’t see them then that’s your problem. Elaborate?

Here is a normal example of real resistance between a striker and a wrestler khabib vs Conor
Just look at how many elbows Khabib received just trying to take Conor to the fence!

Francis said " if I could take him down then Jones can definitely take him down. "

lol yeah Gane the big 50% finish rate at HW gonna easily stop the GOAT.

There's no doubt in my mind Jones could go 5 rounds standing with Cyril if he wanted to. He may lose but he'd clinch and make it a dog fight, not a standing at range striking match

Cyril isn't special. Jon is.

I'll tell you the truth. I'd have KO'd Jone no problem had it been a fight where Jones isn't allowed to use his grappling, or striking, or arms, or legs, and I get a steel baseball bat.

COPE.

But he couldn't even grapple with Francis, you had to see the obvious hole and that wasn't going to fill up in time for Jon

Oof

OP belongs on the wall with true_fan, ehxsur, and that other one that says they're an investigator but doesn't investigate.

Everything that you just explained in your "professional opinion" that happened and didn't look right, happened because Gane has no clue what to do on the ground. It doesn't matter how many Russian wrestlers he trained with for this fight, he's not going to be competent on the ground in that short amount of time. He didn't expect to be taken down that quickly and when it happened he lost his wits and panicked which is just something you can't do against someone as good as Jones. You can continue to think it's fishy or a dive or fixed or whatever. At the end of the day Gane showed where his weakness was when he fought Frank and that weakness was absolutely exploited as quickly as possible by Jones.
