Gane is actually a pretty good mma fighter and definitely a top 3 HW right now.
The thing is that he gets a lot of hate from the JBJ-Haters and/or Neckbeard brigade but they mostly make up stuff and also forget facts about his career.
Its a fact that Gane opened his UFC careers with 2 submission wins, the 2nd against Mayes who has only been subbed twice (1st the Gane HH and 2nd from Nascimento). Thats the same Mayes who lost by decison against Gaziev, who according to the 2nd group I mentioned above, is a real threat in the Heavies....
Gane was about to win a dec against Frank and lost because of the HH attempt he tried and then lost position. If he doesnt try that he takes a 3-2 dec against Frank and the haters would now cry about how JBJ needs to fight XY-fighter to cement his legacy, which he will actually never cement, no mater what he does and how many more HWs he would beat.

Couple wrong things here:
He did not attempt a heel hook, he got swept, it was a textbook scissor sweep. Rewatch it, you're completely wrong here.
2nd: Francis' entire knee was torn and clearly was not himself, he was completely immobile on the feet yet still managed to take down Ciryl and control him.
Get your own facts right before you go looking like dumbass calling people "haters".
Hes a terrible wrestler though.
Spivak is a judo guy with very basic, maybe even poor striking, that isnt dangerous enough to get people unfocused on his ground game and takedown threat.
He needs to lumber forward, grab a hold of you and use his trips and throws to take you down. If you keep him on the outside which is Gane's speciality, he's fucked.
Spivak was the perfect grappler for Gane to look good against. He took one shot from much too far out, and he can't wrestle anyway. And then he just proceeded to stand in front of Gane like a deer in the headlights and get beaten up. Until the ref got tired of seeing it and stopped the fight.
If he'd beaten a Curtis Blaydes or a Jailton Almeida I'd understand people saying Gane has fixed his takedown defense.

No, you are completely wrong here. Gane stands up, goes for the heel hook and in the moment he goes in, thus he steps in with his left leg, Ngannou pulls his right leg in and only touches Ciryls leg once Gane was going in. Was no freak situation and everything Frank did was legal but Gane gifted it to him basically.
You know, Gane tried the same heel hook he succesfully executed against Mayes. Should have stayed in guard and he would have won the fight comfortably.
I cant think of anything more boring...
