They both came out of the gates strong and then fizzled out although Nolan is still at a higher standard and much better overall. The funny thing is, they have both become parodies on themselves imo. Nolan seems to have a cultist fan base that are still supporting him and more industry credibility which is why a mundane bore like Oppenheimer was so successful critically and commercially. Most of the movie was just boring pretentious senate room banter, but because it was Nolan, it was omg so amazing!

I haven't seen #s 3-6 on the Nolan list. The only MNS movie I didn't care for was The Village.

Nolan overall. But he's got some Shymamlalan level duds (TDKR/Tenet are absolute dogshit). But Shylmaln does have some films I actually really really love. When both hit they REALLY hit big. But when they miss, oof.

I'm not a Christopher Nolan fan, havent seen them all but I dont think I've liked any of the ones I seen, saw Batman Begins in the theater and walked out before it ended, that new Odyssey movie looks interesting, though

I've liked a lot of M. Night's movies, even the bad ones are enjoyable in a cheap B-movie schlockfest kind of way, which is something ole Pete is definitely a fan of

M. Night wins this easy

Anyway, Nolan is infinitely better of a Director and even a better storyteller than Night.

Night had a couple good movies, a couple ok ones and a bunch of mediocre - shit ones.

Batman Begins & Dark Knight are widely regarded as two of the best comic based films of all time. Dunkirk, Prestige, Oppenheimer, Memento are all solid.

The acting and script for these movies are usually on point. The acting and script in Nights movies are usually laughable.

Directing wise, I dont think its even comparable. Nolan is superior. I could imagine he would have no problems replicating what Night did, but I couldnt say the same the other way around.

Nolans lower tier films still look like gold compared to Nights bottom stack.

Nights bad films are so incredibly bad, you could only think he was on some sort of drugs and just not in the proper state of mind.

Im not even a huge Nolan fan, but compared to Night, hes Kubrick.

Why are you quoting me in your love letter to Christopher Nolan, the question was about personal preference, not about who the crowd thinks is better

I get where he is coming from. I find many of Nolans later films very dreary and painful to watch, like Oppenheimer, Tenet, while Nights movies can be so bad and silly they can still be entertaining.
