I think they’re probably insanely unsafe and won’t meet our safety standards as they areSo when will we allow imports of these Chinese cars?

You're mistaken.I think they’re probably insanely unsafe and won’t meet our safety standards as they are
How much are the ones passing Australias standards? I’m guessing not the 7,000 usd onesYou're mistaken.
Australia has safety standards on par with Europe, stricter than the US, and Chinese cars have good ANCAP safety scores.
I don't doubt they cut corners on safety in some of the cheaper models for their domestic market but the exports are usually very good.
china has a lot of engineers from mainstream brands these days, and I'm not sure it would matter. That silly "Smart" tiny car seemed to sell quite a bit before they collapsed and I'm most certain they would not pass crash tests. China has been scalping german and american engineers for a long while, Ford/GM going over decades back was for the transfer of technology, and China did it's best to steal from Tesla and continue to look up to them because contrary to the "Tesla Fail" narrative, Tesla has had it's biggest month in Chyna EVER, and BYD is actually on the decline, and a big reason they won out this year is due to the stop in production and cutover of the tesla MY.How much are the ones passing Australias standards? There are literally thousands of them outside a waterpark and outside an airforce base in australia(no buyers?). Why their local and/or national governments allow this is beyond me.china has a lot of engineers from mainstream brands these days, and I'm not sure it would matter. I'm going to put my money on tesla to reclaim the number one spot despite not having an inexpensive model. BYD had a sharp decline in china because their vehicles are simply sub par, 0 mile used cars..... that's a BYD thing and why they won out of the sales war, they fudged numbers, likely subsidized to sell below market, and china itself was it's number one market........... 4 consecutive months of yoy declines, this is not a product that will endure longevity in the market.
something shady is going on, not somali level shade, but still china level shade.....There are literally thousands of them outside a waterpark and outside an airforce base in australia(no buyers?). Why their local and/or national governments allow this is beyond me.

I certainly can’t argue. I don’t know hardly anything about their car industry. Not surprised to hear that they stole tech to catch up in the slightestchina has a lot of engineers from mainstream brands these days, and I'm not sure it would matter. Yeah the price tags is what’s had everyone losing their minds about it. It would be a massive deal if it was a safe, reliable EV for a price like that. My guess is once it’s brought to the US it’s much much more expensive then that and more in line with other low end models![]()

The Atto 1/ Dolphin Surf is the smallest BYD as far as I know. But I think the 7000 price tag in China is heavily subsidized or dumped, and it's at least twice that price in external markets when import taxes and tariffs are applied.
This is the car I mentioned earlier that is favored by Uber drivers here in Brazil, because the 38kwh battery gives a full day of work before charging, while having decent backseat space for passengers and very low running costs.
