Translated from the brazilian site Globo Esporte
Alan Finfou, Chimaev's BJJ coach in an interview to Combate:
''He trains four times per day. The first training of the professional fighters starts at 10am, everybody makes at least 2 per day, but Khamzat and some other fighters that lives in the gym makes more: A physical workout at 8 am, then mitts at 9am and at 10am he already starts his third training. At night they make one more, choosing what modality.
Chimaev wakes up before everybody and it's him that wakes up the rest of the people. You need to see it to understand. I saw a lot of fighters lose the focus because of a lot less, becoming lazier just by being signed by the UFC and never being the same. But Khamzat didn't changed anything.
Even after his UFC debut, and having done everything he did, he still lives in the same small room. People started to say "Dude, you are earning a lot of money, you can go away", but he says "No, because i would get late to the training". He is too dedicated, has a extraordinary discipline.
His phone screen protector is the UFC belt. On his room there's a photo of the UFC belt. He wakes up everyday looking to that, he is a man on a mission. He already used to train a lot before he had any visibility, and still does same, has the same habits and routine. When he had his debut on the Fight Island, his instagram had 15k followers and he came back with half a million followers. His life changed in a day, i was afraid of how he would react, but he didn't changed anything.
He hears everything, he's the type of people that is easy to work with. If you ask him to jump head first to the ground, he just asks the height. Chimaev is also very talented, came from wrestling where he accomplished a lot, but when he changed to another modality he understood that he would need more than wrestling.''
About Chimaev's start at Allstar Training Center
''When he first entered the gym, he looked like a kid, looking at everything and asking to take photos of everyone (Latifi, Manuwa and Gustaffson were there). After the first training he asked to me and another coach: "If i move to here, will you allow me to live in the gym? I wana fight and be a UFC champion" We saw he had talent and was a high level wrestler. We said he could and he said: "I'm talking seriously, i will change to here and train everyday" He went back to his city and came back in 2 days with all of his bags. We didn't really believed he would do that.''
