That was one of the most boring title fights in a very long time & Khamzat certainly lived up to the name "Borzzz" in that fight however Dricus actually won this fight under PRIDE rules

Actually made the attempt to finish the fight in the 5th with the RNC while Khamzat just held him for whole fight

Under PRIDE rules Dricus would be deemed the winner just for attempting to finish the fight while Khamzat would have been issued yellow cards and possibly DQ due to just stalling & holding Dricus on ground and not trying to finish the fight

Only "offense" that Khamzat did was just holding Dricus on the ground and some "brutal" knees to the thigh of Dricus

Under the pussified UFC rules though, Khamzat won though

Even the crowd was booing all that hugging and cheered when Dricus locked in the RNC which officially was the only sub attempt according the UFC stats

Khamzat fans who are defending this hugfest better keep up that same energy when other fighters in the UFC do this

Khamzat took zero risks to finish the fight after all his bullshit "I don't care, I kill him" talk. He obviously cared. And DDP got dominated so thoroughly it looked like he didn't even prepare his takedown defense.

I don’t agree with the Pride Rules thing and I think they would have given Khamzat the W even if he was doing nothing but securing position.

Exactly. I could've put the worst ones in but there was no need. Khamzat came for DDP every time and credit for DDP for not being finished but that's all he could do, perhaps working on his TDD enough would've allowed him to land shots on Khamzat?

Dominating can be boring sometimes, especially if it is grapple heavy with little to no strikes.

It’s still dominating though.

Dominating a champion like Khamzat did is extremely impressive.

DDP & his kissing buddy coach should keep quiet and take the L like real men. Instead of saying stupid shit like “we expected a fight” and “I was bored”.

Makes them look gayer than those kisses they share after a good round.

If memory serves when Khabib fought Conor he let his hands go. True Conor could only defend certain ways given the threat of takedown and grapplefuck...but at least Khabib showed off his hands some. And I think it was intentional. I think Khabib could have just wet blanketed Conor the entire fight.

I submit that even Dagestan wrestler style fighters who have figured out a great path to victory...know they have to put on more of a show.

It will affect sales at the box office/pay per views if they don't...cuz striking was part of MMA and people still like to see it. If not there MUST be a submission. Lacking that...well more people watch tennis than wrestling.

No Khabib only let his hands in round 3 when he was sure conor was gassed from defending subs and could barely throw a punch. More likely he was resting/resetting himself knowing the threat was gone and immeadately shot r4 for en ruote to the finish.

DDP's TDD was always highly-suspect - even an old-declined Brunson repeatedly took him down and passed his guard with ease. It's just he fights in a division with very few wrestlers (and didn't fight most of them) and show-cased some decent offensive judo/wrestling himself, so the assumption to many was that his takedown defense and defensive grappling would be solid as well. Turns out he was over-reliant on being a super-strong freak athlete that could just bully his way out of bad positions against lesser opposition than Khamzhat.

Realistically his takedown defense was never going to improve that much in such a short period of time, but it was shocking that he wasn't even attempting to sprawl or lower his level to deter entries. He made it so easy for Khamzhat that it was comical at times. At some point you should be crouched with your hands low if you are that susceptible to getting taken down and controlled at length.

He also thought Khamzhat would gas because he's gassed in the pass, but that was from fighters with good defensive grappling and/or wrestling (Usman/Burns) that were far more technical and would be constantly working to shrimp, escape, stand-up. Turns out if you lack the technical ability to do simple things like getting underhooks or retaining guard your physicality won't do a lot if the opponent is highly-skilled and technical and focused on controlling you.

PS It was Severn vs. Shamrock 2, not the original meeting.

I skip most WMMA so I can’t comment on the Valentina versus Maia fight, and Woodley versus Wonderboy was definitely lame, but at least they were standing the whole time, and you were somewhat at the edge of your seat, because there was always some potential for a big moment or a finish.

With Chimaev and DDP there was zero intrigue, I can’t think of anything that excites me less than one man just hugging another for 25 minutes… Seriously I can’t imagine anyone being into that fight unless they’re also into gay porn.
