Elections Chile Elect "Far Right" Candidate José Antonio Kast as Next President

I hope he gets the f*ck out of there before things get deteriorate. This clown they elected is a Pinochet sympathizer.

Yeah, pretty disappointing that they elected an open Pinochet admirer but that just tells you how fed up people are with crime.

The bad news is that citizen repression is the authoritarian's favorite tool and they elected a guy that idolizes the biggest authoritarian in Chile's history (probably).

The good news is that Chile is very centrist overall so it'll be hard for him to break out of that.

Well, maybe Chile's Communist Party isn't that hardcore if its candidate served in the center-left Boric administration and the center-center Bachelet administration.
They aren't "hardcore" in the sense that they are not using a violent revolution to overthrow government, they are still looking to implement communism in Chile.

Surely you know that what people say and what they do can be vastly different. Obama talked a pretty radical (for American standards) game but was a very standard Democrat.
What exactly did Obama said was radical?

Jara's party can be called the Maoist-Leninist Worker's Revolution Party but if was working with moderate governments, then they aren't radical. Don't let the scary names fool you.
If they weren't radical they would renounce their most radicals of views or would at least be able to condemn dictatorships in the continent.

We saw in the Constituent Assembly process that given a tiny majority they will drown all opposing views and try to implement their own vision without any input.

The funny part about all of this? is that if the Assembly process had been a success Kast would be effectively be able to do all the "far right" stuff he wants to do without any constraint from "bourgeois" checks and balances.

Radicals govern like the pendulum isn't swinging back ever, because they don't intend to every give power back.

Chile is centrist because its Constitution was designed to prevent another Allende from every happening, that means someone with a plurality victory breaking democratic norms in order to push a very radical agenda. Kind of what Trump is doing right now.

So Chilean Constitution prevents presidents from going rogue, something the Communist Party called "antidemocratic", sure as hell they are glad their own Constitution didn't passed now.

More crimes are going to happen, not less. But they'll class-appropriate crimes so I guess that's a plus.

The right wing in Chile ran on the same sh*t fascists always run on, obstructionism and xenophobia. And just like Argentina Chile will get markedly worse, less free, more authoritarian, more economically absurd,
Argentina is becoming more economically absurd? Also the left in Chile also ran on xenophobia.

the wealthy will get more wealthy and the working class will have rights stripped away for daring to vote for Boric, and as things decay the Capital class will be sure to propagandized the public that ideologies that are not in power are to blame, and their apologists will applaud it and repeat that propaganda.
On the contrary it was the left who ran on lowering the standards of individual rights back during the Constituent Assembly, the right on the other hand ran for keeping the current Constitution.

Yes. I know you feel like austerity is the correct move for Argentina, I've never agreed with that. And while the Argentine Government is definitely reporting glowing economic reviews of itself, groups within the Country (such as the Argentine Catholic University) have stated that variances in how poverty is measured and less underreporting of income are muddying the water. There's also the fact that families are resorting to high interest loans to buy groceries. So still a large presence of debt economy, which isnt really relief despite being reflected that way on paper.

Kast ran on the same phony populist nonsense that all right wingers run on. I never said the right ran on restricting rights (except for immigrants), I'm saying what happens when dictator admirers get elected. And there is NO denying Kast's political ideologies and affiliations. Friend of Mileil and his phony Libertariabisn while concentrating police and military power then turning them on his own people. Brother served under Pinochet. Father a literal Nazi. Thinks Chile should become a prison farm like El Salvador, supporter of the criminal Bolsonaro who literally attempted a coup.

But yeah, Communism bad

No, im not saying that what Milei is doing is the best that can be done, but shit is definitively not more "economically absurd"

Argentina had in 1 year the inflation the US had in 30 yearrs.

"Brother served under Pinochet" his brother was a civil servant of a dictatorship he had zero to do with the actual repression

"Father a literal nazi" his father was a teenager when WW2 began and was conscripted in the armed forces, he became a Nazi at 18 years old while stationed in the Eastern Front and according to his wife, he did it so he would be stationed in a garrison instead of being sent to the Leningrad meatgrinder you talk as if he was some big shot.

"concentrating police and military power" how exactly? he can't do that simply because of the Constitution he personally has defended against the communist party attempt to undermine it prevents it.

But yeah, Communism bad

I can't see how can someone look at Venezuela, Cuba or North Korea and not come to the conclusion that "communism bad" even countries that abandoned communism rather than collapse, most of them remained brutal dictatorships, just with a market economy, like China.
