Chess - Path towards World Chess Championship (Gukesh Dommaraju vs Ding Liren)

Arjun beats Fabi, Hikaru beats Gukesh, and Wei Yi beats Magnus in Armageddon.

Two rounds to go and it's still pretty wide open at the top.

Big wins for Magnus and Gukesh today.

It's down to the final round.

One of the best tournaments in recent memory. It's a shame both matches didn't go to Armageddon. Good win for Magnus, but he probably isn't too thrilled with how it went. Fabi is a legend.

Feel bad for Gukesh, but still a very solid tournament. He needs more experience and consistency. Hell of a tournament to play in for your 19th birthday.

Like him or not, Hans keeps getting better and is playing at an extremely high level.

this was some amateur hour chess, but confident in my opening pawn structure i started wrecklessly exchanging pieces with this dude and i gave the mofo all the opportunities in the world to trade queens with me and yet he refused so he can get fucked deep.

this one feels satisfying. i blundered my rook and i knew i was fucked from that point on. he had every opportunity to mate me but nope, he'd rather make himself another entry into the art of the draw.

this may have been the fastest pawn promotion for me ever. dude threatened my knight with his rook and then he quickly realised what was up when i said to hell with my knight and shamelessly moved my pawn up instead

i was just screwing around with the most illogical opening since the bongcloud and i barely even developed any pieces. not only was he not able to prevent the promotion but the poor dude was forced to take my knight just to avoid the checkmate when i promoted. go ahead and take the candy, barrie mckochiner is going deep in ya anyways.

realising that taking my knight which he was originally threating in the first place and letting me promote was his only course of action to try to salvage the game, it was at that precise moment that he resigned in shame.

and lastly, it wouldn't be a day of chess without throwing up a bongcloud victory. dude was fucking shook. he didn't know what to do so he gave up his bishop and then his queen and then after i accepted his pawn trade with my king he just had about enough of my shit and he rage quit.

and this one has me rolling. i hung both of my rooks out to dry and missed a chance to pin his queen and win it for my rook, and then i missed another glorious opportunity to win his last rook and then get the mate but unheaded i still found a way to fuck him sideways and get the mate.

he got a real good forking. absolutely masterful. just like magnus drew it up! i believe my work here is done.

Magnus wins early Titled Tuesday.

Hans wins late Titled Tuesday.

in the latest entry in The Art Of The Draw, our good friend eclipsence was wrecking my shit and was ultimately about to promote a bunch of pawns and destroy me, but i just kept hopping the pony back and forth checking his king and i forced a draw by repetition to salvage what i could out of the game.

normally this wouldn't be all that noteworthy but he kept on sending me smiley emoji's every time i made a mistake. so after the draw he promptly called for a rematch. i took the words of advice from one of the sherdog crew and i told him he didn't earn himself a rematch, i sent him some smileys back and then i went and started a new game.

the cock and balls opening. now i've seen everything.

now if only they would forego castling and simply just keep the king protected inside of the shaft it would be hard to penetrate such a firm structure. some would even say that this testicular fortification is even stronger when you do it with black.

you just gotta watch out for the counter, they call it the cock and balls torture, or CBT for short. first your balls drop and then they destroy your cock.

alright folks, it wasn't quite the cock and balls opening but i just did something special that i'm damn proud of. i pulled off the triple bongcloud.

i don't even know if such a ridiculous thing even exists in the chess world until now, but i just destroyed this poor brit with it. he was absolutely shaken to the core. my patented triple bongcloud is now the most feared opening in the game of chess.

i came. i conquered. i believe that now i may have seen it all.

magnus is a god damn troll. opening a game with knight to h3 which looks just so ridiculous that even i haven't tried it and i haven't seen anybody else do so either. and then making all of these crazy ass sacrifices that look ridiculous and blunder-esque at first but then ultimately makes him win the game.

like one of the commenters said, i can't wait to try this and blunder 3 moves in.

alright i guess magnus' ammonia opening is catching on. 3rd game in today and some dude goes knight to h3 right off the bat.

so i counter with knight to a3...the only logical opening move in a game of chess i guess.

i also ultimately sacked a knight and threw my other one away for his bishop but of course the game ended up nothing at all like what unfolded in the magnus game and it sure as hell wasn't pretty, but i was able to secure the mate before the guy could resign so i guess that makes me better than magnus!

early on i was almost able to dupe this guy into becoming another victim of the art of the draw. that wouldn't slide in a magnus game but just like what ultimately happened in his ammonia game, my opponent was in a much better position....until he wasn't.

i played the most sloppy game of chess imaginable but so did my opponent. this was a straight up trip to blunderville for the two of us in every which way.

to top it all off i could have mated this dude through pawn promotion after getting my rook to f7 but i completely forgotten about my promotable pawn just sitting on h7 the entire time!!!

this was some ELO 100 level shit right here boys. i have to share this one because its god damn laughable the amount of times that both of us blundered and hung our own pieces and the amount of times we didn't even notice.

worst. game. ever. after blundering my bishop and hanging my rook - that should have already been captured 2 or 3 times already - i'm just glad that my opponent decided to resign after i captured his pawn. i probably would have somehow ended up hanging my other rook too! that game was starting to go sideways on me when all i had to do to win the game was to move a god damn pawn up one square.

first time i've ever ignored a promotable pawn before. i must still be drunk from last night.

and then of course the pendulum swings, i soon follow it up with what is probably my fastest pawn promotion ever via discovery check which i was able to bag his rook and completely destroy his position and get an easy mate in.

i wasn't about to make the same mistake in one day. and i've made alot of mistakes today.

That opening knight pursuit was a sight to behold. Absolute cinema.

this has gotta be one of the most hilarious ways to force win a queen. buddy didn't seem to think so. he rage quit in shame.

in response to my threat on his knight if he would have went pawn to f5 instead of pawn to f6 i could have hit him with another en passant threatening his queen and ultimately winning that knight anyways. weird how i seen the en passant in that game but i never seen the promotion!

i almost won his bishop in hilarious fashion earlier on but he caught it at the last move unlike many other of my opponents. i've had people resign early on me before after allowing me to trap their bishops in that manner.

but the game sure could have gona south after i blundered my queen. but then he essentially blundered his queen by retreating his king to e7 instead of e8 and allowing the fork on his queen.
the way i see things now it was a simple queen-for-queen exchange with me winning a rook. so masterful that neither of us saw it happening until after it happened.

hanging my queen was not a blunder. it was a blind sacrifice to win a rook and win the game through a forced resignation rather than a promotional checkmate. i'm a blind genius. the stevie wonder of chess! just like magnus drew it up in practice!
