Chess - Path towards World Chess Championship (Gukesh Dommaraju vs Ding Liren)

Yeah, he mentioned last week that he was going on Rogan. Haven't seen any of it but it could be interesting.

I thought it was pretty intersting. About as far as Joe went off topic was talking about AI learning chess and GO.

He started the whole interview off with the alleged anal bead incident lol

Good to hear. Although, I was hoping Joe would at least try to convince Magnus to do DMT. I'll try to watch a bit of it.

I still can't believe the anal beads stuff actually caught on. Not sure if you've seen it but there's a Piers Morgan interview with Hans and his lawyer that's absolutely hilarious.

i'm not watching all this...but how the hell does anal beads tie in to anything?

does magnus wear a lucky set of anal beads when he plays?

Around the time Hans was first accused of cheating by Magnus, someone on a popular chess stream/chat thingamabob (I don't know the names of these things) just randomly threw out as a joke that Hans was using the vibration of anal beads to cheat. It caught on and somehow actually became a discussion point. Elon Musk even tweeted about it at one point and in that interview Piers kept mentioning it.

how the hell do you cheat in chess?

other than changing the color of your opponents pieces of course?

It's pretty easy to cheat online using engines. Hans actually admitted he cheated a few times online when he was younger. Chess.com claims they have strong evidence he cheated more than he admitted but who knows.

Over the board, there's no evidence Hans cheated against Magnus or anyone else. He beat Magnus and Magnus threw a bit of a hissy fit and withdrew while implying Hans must have cheated. Hans was actually having trouble discussing his thoughts and different lines after some games which didn't really help things but still there's no actual evidence.

As for how you actually cheat over the board; spectators can signal, small earpieces, other communication devices etc. The anal beads thing was an absurd example of something that is actually possible.

At the end of the day, Hans is now in the top 20 in the world after fighting the accusations. It's actually pretty impressive considering he was effectively blacklisted from getting invitations to tournaments. At this point, I'm rooting for him because he's somehow far less insufferable than most of the people that accused him of cheating.

oh like they use some kind of software or something to determine the best possible move?

well, AI doesn't always get things right. what happens if the cheat software has a hiccup and tells them to change the color of their opponents pieces? a move rarely seen in the game of chess. i guess they'd have to think of their next move all on their own. oh the humanity!

but i'd imagine it would be harder to cheat on a face to face in person game of chess. i mean what are you gonna do? distract your opponent and move his queen somewhere else on the board? hit them in the head with a steel chair and then place one of your captured pieces back in play?

Yeah, the engines like Stockfish are extremely good now. Much better than the best players. The way they play is actually very non-intuitive so it's usually easy to spot who's using a high-level engine. Although, they haven't mastered the old color switcharoo.

Yeah face to face is much, much harder to cheat.

if you could play as good as a free to access chess engine using the computing power in a typical cell phone, you would already be the best player in the world.

the color switcharoo is coming any day now. only a matter of time until AI takes over the world and changes the rules of chess. and maybe even introduces the anti-queen, where for up to a two square radius this new piece can go anywhere that a queen cannot.

lmfao. there is so many things wrong with this. chat gpt is reinventing the way the game of chess is played.

Second tournament of the Freestyle Tour starts in a few days.

Kramnik will be coaching Hans. Should be hilarious.

Hans withdrew at the last minute citing personal reasons (Alireza also withdrew). Coincidentally, they announced increased security measures for the event.
