I've heard the whole merger conspiracy on other issues that actually have explanations. The Colbert Show was losing the company 10s of millions of dollars a year. How it lasted so long being a money sink is beyond me.

The show was losing $40 million a year. They canceled Corbin's show all the same a while back for the same reason. There is no conspiracy here. The show was a financial albatross. They were paying Colbert stupid amounts of money(and the production team), for negative returns.
