Social CBS cancels Colbert and The Late Show

Insert that Jeremy Clarkson gif of "oh no! Anyway....."

I think Jon Stewart should've stayed retired after his first run on the Daily Show. He had some funny moments even though I am not a big fan of his style of humor.
The Colbert Report was legitimately very funny but the moment he switched over to his serious talk show it just became insufferable. Good riddance.

They aren’t replacing him, simply cutting the show. I guess it makes sense given a lot of shows that pander to liberals are having lower ratings.

Plus NPR/PBS, not a good week for liberal media.

I like the Colbert Report the times I did watch it, was good satire, his late show was very cringe tho.

alright, so let's talk about conservative humor. does it even exist? if so on what channel?

i know they've got that one joke about identifying as an attack helicopter and stuff. and obama's wife is a man. but i guess i'm just out of the loop.

Dems Convinced Colbert Cancellation is a Conspiracy

Senators try to intimidate CBS into keeping an unfunny leftist on the air.

And if you think that’s a whole lotta C’s, consider all the C notes that Paramount was losing by keeping Colbert’s MSNBC version of the Late Show on the air. CBS was losing $40 million a year on The Late Show. That’s not far from Colbert’s $30 million salary.

Some of that can be blamed on Stephen Colbert’s relentless unfunniness, but late night has been dying for a while. NBC cut its late night shows back by a few nights and killed the band. Revenues are dropping sharply across late night.

So it’s not as if any of this is coming out of left field.

But Dems and I don’t just mean the social media mouthbreathers, but politicians and media outlets are crying conspiracy.

“CBS canceled Colbert’s show just THREE DAYS after Colbert called out CBS parent company Paramount for its $16M settlement with Trump – a deal that looks like bribery. America deserves to know if his show was canceled for political reasons,” Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a former presidential candidate, tweeted.

CBS and Colbert had been having conversations since early July. Colbert attacking Paramount was probably part of his exit strategy to pose as a martyr.

Warren knows this. She’s not dumb. She’s just a congenital liar.

“First, Trump essentially forced Paramount to pay him to get government approval for a huge merger—it reeks of corruption. Now, Paramount fired Colbert for calling it what it is: a big, fat bribe. This is how we slide into a strongman state—it should alarm us all!” Sen. Jeff Merkeley tweeted.

What should actually alarm us all is that politicians are trying to intimidate CBS into keeping an unfunny leftist on the air.

I gave a brief history of Trump trying to get people canned that criticize. It’s enough to warrant discussion. It’s hilarious that you guys come up with every conspiracy under the sun and this one somehow goes too far even though we’ve seen Trump demand for so many people to be canceled for daring to say something negative about him. Vaccines kill you, democrats use cloud seeding to cause natural disasters, sandy hook was a hoax OK, Biden rigged the election, etc but this one is too much….
Then make a thread on it to discuss, because it has nothing to do with this. You want there to be a conspiracy but there isn't. The show suck and Americans want comedy, not self indulgent lectures.

Yeah. They're trying to make any rationale for the cancellation seem illegitimate.

What if the CBS brass simply decided "a more centrist line-up is where we're headed going forward, and Colbert would be a poor fit"? I think that would satisfy the definition of a political decision, but it wouldn't be an illicit or conspiratorial kind of political decision.

I think a major reason the show was cancelled was financial, but it could also be the case they want to adjust the orientation of their network, hopefully to make it more balanced.

Liberal men in general need to stop doing that. It's not a sign of strength, no matter how much their feminist dominatrix's tell them it is.
Crying is normal . Crying in public over your emotions is not. Get it fucking together.

They think it's a favorable move for optics. Democrats/Liberals think weakness = strength. Especially for men. They love nothing more than to make men into weeping vaginas. They are the party of feminists and homosexuals. Quite the combination. And people wonder why they lose regular folks who don't buy into their self destructive bullshit.

I will put this here.

""The 27th season of the satirical series “South Park” looks set to be delayed. The plan was to premiere later in July, but a contract dispute looks set to change that, according to information from the Hollywood Reporter.

Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have signed a multi-billion dollar deal with the media company Paramount, but production company Skydance, which is soon believed to be the new owners of Paramount, opposes the terms.

According to the site, the issue is likely to be decided in court."

And by now we all know who the CEO is of Skydance, right?

Its definitely the fact that Colbert is woke and not that late night talk shows are a relic of a bygone era. Colbert actually had the strongest ratings beating out Fallon and Kimmel. They are all on their way out.
Colbert having a stronger rating than Fallon and Kimmel surely wouldnt be that hard. Both of them are complete flogs

This is a weird fucking post.

They're all shit, and are probably on the chopping block. Johnny Carson used to pull in an average of 9 million viewers a night. I doubt you'd get to that total if you added up all the average viewers from this gaggle of late night hosts.

Colbert had a staff of 200 for an hour show and no ratings... it was a huge $$$$ losers. They lost $40 million last year alone.

You can explain this to leftists, but you can't understand it for them.

Not sure if this clip was posted yet, but that tweet sums it up. More people used to go to late night talk shows for anything and everything outside of day to day politics.

But the whole punch line of Schiff being there, who had 3 of the episodes segments, was this “piss off”. Like you literally alienate not only half the country, but also the majority of people who are basically apolitical, and. Hyper partisan person like Schiff is the last thing you want to see late at night, after putting your kids to sleep, and potentially a couple beers

Southpark must never be touched . Generational show for pop culture. 0 bias towards what they make fun of across party or religious or cultural lines ( unless 8th century barbarians make a big stink) .

Should bring Craig Ferguson back

Also Colbert to should return to his Colbert Report roots

Mate, you're talking to combat vets while groveling at the feet of a man who dodged the draft and literally has to pay women to fuck him.

Your claims of being masculine, don't hold up under scrutiny.

Carson was smarter than the current lot.

There's nothing wrong with what Carson says here, and for the most part I agree with him.

I would counter with two points.

First, there have been some outstanding comedians who have leaned heavily into politics and "serious" topics. George Carlin, especially later in his career, immediately comes to mind. George had what I think almost all truly great comedians have, which is a Grade-A bullshit detector. He was able to look at a topic, boil off the BS, and present the distilled truth of it in an entertaining and amusing way. Bill Burr and Dave Chappelle are a couple others that have a similar talent (if not to the same extent).

The other point I'd offer is that we actually had a decent news media in Carson's day. We don't anymore. Back then the news was primarily interested in integrity, because integrity was everything. As with most other aspects of our country now, our modern news (especially television news) is primarily interested in profit. It's no longer about informing the viewers of fact, but instead about engaging the viewers with opinion. Integrity in media means nothing anymore, because integrity doesn't drive ratings; outrage and opinion drives ratings.

You could argue that it started with talk radio in the 90s, but it really came to a head after 9/11. Instead of holding the government to account during the War on Terror, channels like Fox News served primarily as an unquestioning mouthpiece of the administration. The Daily Show was a direct response to that. Jon Stewart was perfect in that role, but it's not a role everybody can nail.

I don't have much of an opinion on Colbert's cancellation because I haven't watched television regularly in about 15 years. Whether CBS cancelled the show due to financial reasons or political ones isn't terribly important, because in either case it simply means CBS isn't the right platform for the content Colbert wants to produce. There are plenty of other platforms out there for him.
