Yeah he was a few strikes shy and got 1/2 backpacked from beating the #7 guy, the fight was close enough to make everyone collectively reanalyze judging criteria for scoring fights. Not a hell of a lot of upside here for MVP.
MVP just had a competitive fight with an undefeated top 10 guy who is reasonably close to title contention.
That's not even a step down, that's an awkwardly long elevator ride with a layover in Albuquerque.
Page isnt getting the fights he'd hoped for.
Zero Upside for MVP to take this fight.
Put MVP against Leon. It makes sense now. Also keep leon far far away from the title because he's a boring fighter with an even more boring personality
The #1 WW fighting #13 WW who lost his last fight makes sense? Is that how you think UFC matchmakes?
Yeah Leon isn't getting an immediate rematch but he's probably 2 *good* wins from getting back into a title shot. Leon Edwards vs Ian Garry makes way more sense & Leon's team has expressed interest in the fight.
Thought I remembered someone calling for Rountree and Alex somewhere before the fight was announced.Yes.
I don't think the UFC is going to match MVP up like he lost his last fight.
I also think the UFC is going to put Leon further away from the title. I also think Brit Vs Brit in the UK is lucrative matchmaking and the UFC won't want to miss that boat. And since no one cares about Leon (cause he sucks too watch, let's be honest) that's the most appealing fight they can make with him.
I also made a thread last march about rountree getting a title shot against Pereira and why it made sense, I got laughed out of the room, but here we are.
Yes.
