I doubt that's what they'll be. They are more of a villain for the Fantastic 4, so I doubt they're going to always be this fun loving group.
My point was just that it doesn't have to be a simple "good vs bad". We don't really know the full story behind the Kree, so they aren't necessarily bad, as in evil.
The Skrull can end up being the "bad guys" in future movies, but more in a way that Thanos was, instead of someone like Loki.
They could seek revenge for being booted from their home and then take to wrecking shit across the galaxy as payback.
Nobody thinks they're the bad guy in a war, and I hope to get more nuanced villains like Thanos, and less like Steppenwolf (Justice League)
CAPTAIN MARVEL Stays No. 1 with $69 Million, Soars to $760 Million Globally
Captain Marvel easily stayed No. 1 in its second weekend, earning another $69 million in North America and $120 million overseas for a mighty worldwide total of $760 million.
The pic's domestic total stands at $266 million; the foreign tally is $494 million.
The first female-led superhero pic from Marvel Studios and Disney — starring Brie Larson — is now assured of ultimately earning $1 billion. And it's already passed up a slew of superhero pics.
In North America, where it declined less than 55 percent, Captain Marvel scored one of the top 20 second weekends of all time as more females turned out.
Elsewhere, Paramount's animated family pic Wonder Park, costing as much as $100 million to produce before marketing, opened in second place with a dismal $16 million from 3,838 cinemas. The silver lining: it had been tracking to take in only $8 million to $12 million. Nevertheless, the movie stands to be a major loser unless it does big business overseas and holds up exceptionally well in the U.S.
CBS Films' teen drama Five Feet Apart followed in third place with an estimated $13.2 million from 2,803 theaters, nearly double its modest production budget of $7 million.
Considering that Captain Marvel is going to be the face of the MCU going forward and she is a "cosmic character" as well as her having been helping the Skrulls for 30 years at this point I do believe they might go for some sort of Kree vs Skrull storyline.
Them retconning so much in this movie really takes away a lot from the already established story, characters and universe. The Skrulls are basically the OG villains, introduced in Fantastic Four issue number 2 but in CapMar they just turned them into a comparison to minorities that need help from the "strong white woman" since they can't do it themselves.
For a movie that has a lead that only talks about white men being bad and lack of diversity (and directors feeling the same way) I didn't see much diversity in the movie. In total there was 3 minority characters, one of whom already was an established character (Fury).
daughter for some reason has an insane amount of memories with Carroll and seem to look up to Aunt Whitey even though she was 5 when she left. Maybe if Brie actually did care about what she says she does she would've passed the roll to an african american woman instead of whitewashing the character and turning the original character into a sidekick. Notice how Monica also was divorced? Because men are bad and leave their families.
For a chick having 2 white parents, both doctors and being homeschooled I cant really say I buy her "I'm a beacon of oppression and diversity" shtick. I believe a lot of the SJW stuff is more about staying relevant, being able to play the victim card and not being the ones being hated one, much more than actually caring about their supposed causes.
Its like a great episode of Modern Family where the gay couple (Cam and Mitch) are looking to get their adopted child into pre-school and figure they are shoe-ins since they are a homosexual couple with a minority race child. The principle goes on to tell them that being homosexual isn't really a big card you can play anymore. Then when they leave the office in rolls in a black woman in a wheelchair with her lifepartner who is a blond chick and they are like "oh fuck".
I do think its a shame what they did with this movie because in and of itself the story isnt irredeemable. They could do 3 simple things that wouldve made it much more liked, especially in conservative countries like china:
Downplay the feminism, if its a strong, well written character it speaks for itself
Do your research and respect the current story line so you dont make a bunch of unnecessary retcons and plot holes
Make the character have an arc
And lastly, dont go out and publicly say you hate the majority of the audience (Imagine Robert Downey Jr receiving an award and saying "Do I hate black women? .... No... Im not saying that". The MCU would be burned to the ground.
I do understand that any business that is stagnant is considered failing and therefore they always want to reach new audiences but there is a way to get your cake and eat it too. Keep some stuff and introduce new things, but dont bash people over the head with them and shit on what came before it.
You can liken it with fighting, you want to have a good fundamental base (the hardcore fans) and some flashy stuff that sets you apart (the new fans). If the only thing you do in a fight is throw spinning wheel kicks you wont get very far.
Lol Dude, you need Jesus and a chill pill.
YOU are the one with an agenda here. Your agenda is to BE offended.
Who said that Captain Marvel is going to be "the face of Marvel"? Where did you hear this? What does that even mean? Who is "the face" of Marvel now?
Marvel has A LOT of characters. They put work and money into ALL of the movies they put out.
They just got the rights back for the Xmen and Fantastic 4, and you think they are going to focus all their attention on Captain Marvel? You are being completely irrational.
Lol You guys keep saying the same thing over and over. Brie NEVER said she hated white men. She didn't diss white men for being white men. She wanted to see OTHER people get represented. It's a simple point that you snowflakes keep trying to twist. You are ruining a movie for yourself over shit that you are making up in your head. You're judging the movie based off of what YOU THINK the director/writer wanted to portray.
Not once did I think about Brie's race while watching the movie. And her being a woman had literally no impact on the story
I have a real hard time liking Steve but I have an easy time loving him. He's lovable because he's pure and he makes decisions from the right place. I can't like him though, because he's too rigid, too often his decisions made from the right place are the wrong decision for the good of the whole. As a sports analogy, I would be happy to put Steve in play as the Captain of my team, but I would want someone like Fury to be the coach of that team, the person who makes the big decisions. Marvel has this worked out pretty well and I don't ever want to see Steve in charge of anything larger than his own team.
I found nothing about Brie's character to be "off" from someone described by the plot. Prior to the Kree training that would have a profound effect on anyone, she was a test pilot before that. Top gun pilots, test pilots, Navy and Air force pilots, their shit doesn't stink. I totally understand her arrogance and lack of emotion, and we got to see humility and emotion slowly come back to her during the movie, mostly thanks to Fury and her best friend / daughter Photon.

If those numbers hold out for the final then -54.8% is a good showing. That's better than the median and on par with Thor 3 and GotG2. If it puts in the same sort of longevity as those two it'll end right around $400mil domestic (which is what I predicted last week)

And here is a nice little video from Marvel Entertainment themselves, hoping to get some more male "hero princessess".
And you tell me, they do not have any kind of agenda?
Edit: Even Captain Marvel herself made herself so unsexy she could, not showing any skin, but boys running around in dresses is awesome.
At this point, the Skrulls are not really an empire. They're fugitives. As far as the Kree goes, they weren't hostile to Earth. Certainly they didn't view Earth as a threat to them. Likely the same could be said of any alien species who was familiar with Earth. We weren't worth their attention until they noticed that we were dicking around with an Infinity Stone.
Fury didn't make that call. Curly Bill Brocius and the "World Council" did. He must not have told them about her and the pager. So it could be said that he would have used the pager if he deemed the situation unwinnable, but the Chitauri attack only lasted about half an hour or so before the Avengers locked it down.
Saw the movie tonight. I enjoyed it. It wasn't perfect, but I'd say it was above the "mediocre" ratings I'd seen. Some good, some bad.
I hated that the Skrulls were sympathetic. No way. I'm far from the authority on Skrulls, but I never read a story where they weren't the villains.
In the first Avengers, Fury said that Loki taught them they weren’t alone and were hilariously outgunned.
Now he might have just been lying to cover up the fact that he had Captain Marvel as his ace in the hole (why tho?) but he definitely implied that Loki was the first contact humans had with extra terrestrial life.
I guess you could just say Nick didn’t want to tell them the whole story because that’s how that sneaky fucker is, and he had his reasons. I really enjoyed the movie and don’t particularly *want* to find problems with it, I just thought it would be so easy to address it.
Two or three lines of dialogue after the credits would have done it.
Cap America could say something like: “This pager apparently broke. He had it in his pocket when Loki attacked. They finally fixed it, but we still don’t know what it does.” - or whatever. Really anything would do.
Maybe even have Carol mention something about how the Kree will be so busy chasing Skrulls around that it should keep Earth safe from them. Which means calling Cap Marvel back could attract the Kree back to Earth, and you don’t wanna do that unless absolutely necessary.
As for the portrayal of the skrulls, they have been portrayed that way several times in the comics. Keep in mind that the skrulls have been around for a half a century in comic books (introduced in the 60s) and thus they have done so much different shit... especially after galactus ate their homeworld.
Which implies she has been rock solid busy for 20+ years
Why is Ronin still alive come GOTG? Why isn't her job in space done ... is it mostly done? She can't take one day off from 20 years of "fixing things"
What the fuck is she doing all this time
How do you spent a fifth of a century on this and still never make it back home?!?! She couldn't take a vacation day to help Fury out for other occasions? He didn't want to be a bother when New York was under attack cause we seen how easily she destroys spaceships

I was really hoping that the reveal would be that her power is so much that it's a threat to the planet - like she could blow it up by accident so she went away only to be brought back in the most dire situations
I would excuse her not being in the first Avengers movies then

Well, so much for the idiotic hope that the movie would flop so that the Russos would go with the rumoured alternate version of Endgame with less Captain Marvel
100% agree with you. Scarlet Johansson deserved to have the first MCU female lead movie and they kept her around for 10 years, just to give that to Brie Larson.

Pretty much! Not really though, more sad and disappointing than anything else. At least SJWs didn't ruin Game of Thrones in the last season. Guess its on to other movies.
