Law Capitol Rioter Megathread

Capitol rioters called Nancy Pelosi's office for items they lost on Jan 6.

As crews cleaned the US Capitol on January 7, 2021, the phone lines in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office began to ring.

Rioters were calling "asking whether there was a lost and found because they forgot their phone there, or they left their purse or what have you," Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., told Insider on Friday in a Q&A.
Police officers quickly took down information from the callers, Raskin said.

"The officers quickly got on the phone and said, yeah, just give us your name, your address, your social, you know, and we'll tie up those loose ends," Raskin said. "But what's so fascinating to me about that there really were people who felt as if they had been summoned to Washington by the president."

Jan. 6 committee issues subpoenas to 'so-called alternate electors'

"The chairman of the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol and surrounding circumstances announced on Friday that it had issued subpoenas to "14 individuals who participated as 'alternate electors' for former President Trump."

Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., said the committee is seeking information from individuals who met and submitted purported Electoral College certificates in seven states: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, New Mexico, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

"The Select Committee is seeking information about attempts in multiple states to overturn the results of the 2020 election, including the planning and coordination of efforts to send false slates of electors to the National Archives," he said in a statement. "We believe the individuals we have subpoenaed today have information about how these so-called alternate electors met and who was behind that scheme. We encourage them to cooperate with the Select Committee's investigation to get answers about January 6th for the American people and help ensure nothing like that day ever happens again."

I've read an article on alternate electors a week ago. Good old Rudy is mixed in that too. I hope he doesn't get into more legal troubles.<45>

A Capitol riot suspect accused of attacking officers while dressed as 'Jack Skellington' requested the 'right to defend himself' from prison guards

"
  • A man accused of assaulting officers at the Capitol asked a judge for the "right to defend himself" against prison guards.
  • Prosecutors allege that Josiah Kenyon, 34, threw objects at officers while swinging a table leg with a protruding nail.
  • Surveillance footage from the riots shows Kenyon dressed as "Jack Skellington," prosecutors say.
"During a hearing on Thursday, Kenyon asked US District Judge Carl J. Nichols for permission to speak, Cheney reported. When warned that he may want to speak with his lawyer first before speaking, Kenyon told the judge: "I have a high enough IQ range to not screw up there, boss."

Following the back-and-forth, Kenyon then asked whether he had a right to defend himself if attacked by prison guards, which the judge declined to answer, according to Cheney.

"I'm not making any finding one way or another about that," the judge said.

At the end of the hearing, Nichols reportedly asked if Kenyon had anything else to raise before the court.

"My wife and children homeless on the street," Nichols answered, leading the judge to end the hearing."

New video shows alleged Jan. 6 Capitol rioters threatening Pence

"A new video from the deadly Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol appears to show two Texas men threatening to drag then-Vice President Mike Pence and other lawmakers through the streets.

The men, Ryan Nichols and Alex Harkrider, were arrested days later in Texas and charged with various crimes, including assault with a dangerous weapon — specifically, a crowbar, baton and pepper spray, according to the indictment against them. They each pleaded not guilty. Harkrider was released pending trial. Nichols was denied release, and both of their cases are still pending.

The Facebook Live video, which was allegedly shot by Nichols as they marched to the Capitol, was mentioned in a pre-trial motion filed by the Justice Department and released to local news outlets over the weekend.

The new footage comes on the heels of the Republican National Committee's vote to censure Reps. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., and Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., for their participation in the House select committee investigating the insurrection. The resolution passed by the RNC attempted to reframe the events of Jan. 6 as "legitimate political discourse."

"WASHINGTON — A Florida man who bragged he "broke the internet" when he was photographed carrying House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's podium during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol was sentenced to 75 days in prison on Friday.

Adam Johnson, a stay-at-home father of five boys, traveled to D.C. in support of former President Donald Trump's efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, which Trump lost to President Joe Biden. U.S. District Court Judge Reggie B. Walton sentenced Johnson to prison on Friday, saying Johnson made "a mockery" of the events by grabbing Pelosi's lectern and played an active role in the attack. Walton said he just couldn't overlook Johnson's behavior, which he said was deserving of a period of incarceration. Johnson will get credit for some time he's already served, and will also pay a $5,000 fine.

"We're on a dangerous slide in America," Walton said Friday, calling what happened on Jan. 6 something you'd expect to "see in banana republics." Walton asked Johnson how he could hold himself out as a good role model for his five children when he came to D.C. and did what he did on Jan. 6.

Johnson, speaking to the court on Friday, said he'd been "nothing but cooperative" with the government since his arrest, and said his actions demonstrated that he was apologetic and was "ashamed" to have been a part of the Capitol riot.

Johnson said he recognized that if he did what he did in another country, he'd be "on a firing wall instead of a courtroom." He claimed he had no intent to harm Pelosi.

"If I did find her, I would ask for a selfie with her, if anything," Johnson said.

Imagine being a stay at home father of five and leaving your kids to go participate in something like this and going to jail. Poor kids have to wear paper bags over their heads.

We all know that kids can be merciless. Can you imagine the jokes those kids are going to be bombarded with because of their dad?

People need to think beyond themselves. It's not just you buddy.

Yep. Feel bad for the kids. Like the mom who got shot. Imagine getting shot because you thought a guy who wouldn’t even piss on you if you were on fire, won an election he clearly lost bigly. Those kids have to live with the fact they their mom was just that dumb.

Wowwwwwwwwwwwww.....

I know. Only 7 years? Cro-Magnon man should get at least 20, its not like he broke a mirror, he participated in terrorist acts against the country. Putin would have hung this dude on the streets.
