Law Capitol Rioter Megathread

None of that was ever going to actually happen, and that's completely irrelevant to Jan 6 which is what we are talking about right now. The "insurrection" had zero chance of overthrowing democracy.
Go ahead and tell it to the judge. I'm sure she'll take it into consideration when handing down his sentence.

Why would I be talking to a judge? I'm talking to you, and you didn't address my point, just deflected.
It wasn't successful because of Pence, Pelosi, and others that shot him down. We were close to a Constitutional crisis and if you don't believe that I don't care. Let's see what the courts, including the SCOTUS, determine once all the evidence is presented.

It's not a deflection. John Eastman was indicted. Whether or not the plan could have worked is a moot point. He worked with Trump to overthrow the election.

Those idiots who spray lemon juice on their face when trying to rob a bank, because they think it makes them invisible on the security cameras or some shit, had a very bad plan; nevertheless, they still tried to rob a bank and a bad plan doesn't absolve them.

Pretty sure he’s just trolling. “B-b-but how would Mike Pency do a naughty little old thing like that? He doesn’t have that authority. My stars!”— that was the giveaway. If he’s not trolling, then I don’t believe I’ve ever met anyone who knows less about Jan 6 than he does.

Storming the capitol was going to accomplish this how? Pence doesn't have the ability to reject electors and decide disputes, only to open envelopes. Their was zero chance that the election could have been overthrown.
And all these guys are still going to jail for being stupid enough to conspire to try.

Pence had NO ABILITY to reject electors or settle disputes, only to open envelopes. Their was no chance he could of done anything to prevent the election from going through. That would be a dumb system if the Vice President (President of Senate) had the ability to just reject electors on a whim. Fortunately we don't have that system.

I think we all feel some 'the media and internet are lying to me'
In the spirit of January 6th, a friend posted a video from Ryan J Reilly of NBC news showing the Jan 6th events at one of the government building. The camera peers through the broken window capturing a government officer pointing his weapon towards the crowd, who remain on the other side of a closed door.

I find the video rather strange as I can't imagine pointing a loaded fire arm in to a crowd as a deterrent. I would think the only time you draw and aim is the point where deadly force is necessary.

That was the last line of defense and breaching it meant getting shot. They weren't at a shopping mall it was our lawmakers on the other side that the crowd was going after.

Understood. But wouldn't it be more prudent to:
hold your weapon in a ready but not aimed position
stand 20 feet back from the door in case of breech.
And shout stand back from the door

Firing blindly into a crowd on the other side of a broken window isn't a good look.

Anyway, my tinfoil hat is on. I can't help but feel like the media is doing its best to keep us divided; Whether it's across red and blue or across black and white. I can't really say I blame them because it keeps people tuned in. Tuned in people get exposed to more adds. End stage capitalism wins.

So what if it had no chance? If I burst into a police station and start waving a gun around, I have no chance of taking over the police station but that doesn't make it legal to try. I think it's silly to suggest otherwise.

somebody probably should have told this to the maga trash who stormed their way into the capitol while chanting to hang mike pence.

There was no chance because there was no mechanism to make it a reality, not just because their wasn't enough force to do it. Pence had NO POWER to do anything other than open envelopes, there was no way to overturn the election results. You guys just keep dodging this fact - or you just lie about it and say Pence could have rejected electors, which he CAN NOT.

Nobody had any guns so your comparison is absurd.

Lol so now people shouldn't be prosecuted because " in my opinion their plan had no chance "
I'm not even making an argument about who should and shouldn't be prosecuted.

I'm pushing back against the argument that this could have "overthrown democracy", no it couldn't have. There was no way for them to overturn the election, whatsoever. They could have occupied that building for days, all they were stopping was a formality. The electors had already cast their ballots.

They had a plan? That's news.

You think it was a coincidence they all traveled to the city the election was being certified in, the day it was being certified, and happened to march on the building it was being certified in coincidently the very moment it was happening and in an completely unrelated decision making moment choose to assault capitol police to get inside?

Trump was in full "Kraken is coming any moment we are at work taking the election back" mode and the plan was obviously to buy him as much time as possible. Mob mentality dampened their sense of consequences.

So how exactly where these "extremists" going to take down the U.S. Government? Perhaps with the gallows!

They could have hung the Establishment Democrats and Republicans, especially Mike Pence at the gallows they constructed?

It seems we barely survived as a nation.
