Canelos team forgot to pay ahead

Canelo connected on Bivol even less than he did on Floyd, I’m not sure where all this “close fight” shit is coming from because Bivol looked like he could go 20 more rounds and Canelo looked done. It’s a mismatch and Canelo proved a point being brave. It was awesome.

Please steer clear of the rematch and go fight GGG and Benavidez, let Biv fight Biev.

Good stuff all around.
exactly. he got outlanded 2 to 1, was beaten by every conceivable metric, and looked worn out by the time it ended.

the judges scorecards indicate a fight a lot closer than it really was. canelo was comprehensively beaten.

that's not a knock on him, though. how many middleweights can come up and not get stomped out by bivol? i can't think of any. dude took a challenge, fought his ass off, and came up short. it's what happens when you chase greatness.

Just a horrible opinion. Canelo should be lauded for that, impressive move even through he lost cleanly.

No, they grossly underestimated Bivol. To think you can walk down a prime 175 champ the same way you would a 160 pounder is stupid. Gassing yourself out in the middle of the fight is stupid. Sure, Canelo has “balls” and his team is stupid. Both things can be true.

The first half was close, the second half was pitching a shut out. Masterclass performance.

First few rounds looked like an easy fight for Canelo, IMO.

It amused me how people have this outrage that people gave close rounds to Canelo then in the next breath proudly state Bivol won 11 rounds.

The ones where he threw 5 punches? lol
When I say "first few" I mean a few of the early rounds of the fight starting with round 1. Sorry you were confused.

For me the first 5 rounds were a competitive 3-2 for Canelo or 3-2 for Bivol depending on how you score, there was a very even round there if I remember correctly. Bivol is a smart boxer and wanted to see what Canelo had before executing.

Again, Canelo landed an embarrassingly low 90+ punches when he fought Floyd, he landed in the 80’s against Bivol. Canelo had pretty impressive defense himself and in no way was even close to being hurt. Canelos defense game has improved a lot over the years.

But landing in the 80’s is embarrassingly low for a p4p king.

Regardless the point is Canelo did fuck all in those early rounds, so the fact you thought this was evidence of 'an easy fight' just shows how biased you are. You seem to think punching arms are scoring shots.

Canelo landed 117 punches vs Floyd. The entire difference was basically jabs.

You're welcome to your opinion. I'll go with the pros who all had the same score over asshole karate forum guy.

come on man.. a “pro” had Floyd tied with Canelo… fuck those pros

Those scores were all over the place though. If 3 judges score the fight exactly the same as me, I'm confident I did just fine. This forum thinks every fight is rigged. Its ridiculous.

They definitely were all over the place vs Floyd, just as scores vs trout, Lara, GGG, etc. Canelo's scoring has always been strange but not because it's rigged, that's bullshit of course. It's because they just like his style, you look at a round where Canelo throws 10 fewer punches than Bivol and doesn't hurt and connect at all, yet judges give it to him, we're used to that.

I think the fact that all 3 judges gave the first 4 rounds to Canelo is a testament to how fucked up their bias toward him is, it's a statement that if a round is relatively close it will automatically go to Canelo and for the opponent to get a round he will need to be extremely dominant and even then you risk having a retarded ass judge like the one who gave him a draw vs Floyd (I mean what the actual fuck)

So I guess it is something to be proud of, if you're bivol, that in the landscape of fucked up judging that surrounds Canelo, you actually managed to get 3 judges to give you the fight, no one has managed to do that, not even Floyd.

But I don't think that excuses the fact that if you gave the last round to Canelo then the fight is a draw, that is borderline criminal when Canelo landed less than 80 punches in the fight and Bivol looked like he just came out of a sparring session ready for 12 more rounds.

For the record, I saw the fight twice, when I saw it live, with my friends not paying as much attention as I should, I gave Canelo 4 rounds. When I saw it again paying attention to every round, on my own, I gave Canelo 3 rounds, i really can't see more than that.

Hang on. So you think there is no such thing as corrupt judging in boxing? or just not in regards with Canelo?

Odd how 'liking the style' of landing far less punches than your opponent is limited to just Canelo.

Quite a few posters here had Canelo ahead after 4. In terms of controversy, this fight doesn't rate.

Well, with all due respect, without naming names or generalizing too much, the majority of the posters in the forum who had Canelo ahead by so much, are the ones you would expect to have him ahead, there were some who thought the fight was a draw.

so here is the punch stat from the fight.

Check this out. There is not one round in which Canelo outlanded Bivol and canelo never hurt Bivol either so the argument of “but canelo did more damage” does not apply here.

The first screen shot is the compubox from the bivol fight. The second from the floyd fight. Both tell the same story, in some cases the numbers are quite similar. Both were masterclasses and easy wins for canelo and Bivol. I’m having trouble looking at stats like those and coming up with a good argument to say it could have been a draw when canelo landed an astonishingly low 84 punches in The whole fight.

There is corruption in boxing of course but to say that every single judge in canelo fights is always in the pocket of canelos team is kind of ridiculous. I blame it on star struck bias or “flashy upper counter ooohh! That’s a round for canelo for sure” syndrome.

I think those numbers look pretty much like they should for how I scored the fight. Bivol didn't start taking over until the 4th round and then there were a couple of rounds he took off later on. We all know judges tend to favor the perceived bigger puncher and that was Canelo for the first few.
As for your opinion of how those people would have scored the fight, I guess we're going to pretend I couldn't make the opposite argument for the most vocal and say they are the ones I'd expect to score it how they did. Half these guys were calling a robbery a month ago and still laughably try to call it a robbery when Bivol won on all 3 cards.
Again, there was nothing controversial about this fight at all other than Bivol fans gave Bivol the close rounds and Canelo fans gave them to Canelo.

The problem is that even in those close rounds Canelo was widely out punched by Bivol, so if a round where canelo lands 5 punches and Bivol lands 14 (rd 1 for example) and canelo doesn’t even come close to hurting Bivol, is seen as a canelo round, then there’s a big problem here, that means rd 1 on the Floyd fight should also be for canelo when Canelo landed 5 punches to Floyd’s 13.

I don’t understand the metric here, Canelo is the bigger puncher but nothing landed.

The reason there is no controversy is because thank god Bivol got the UD, but the fight was simply not that close, I’m not talking about rigged crap or any bs like that, I’m just talking about dumb ass judging. That’s all

But that is not a justified scoring metric.

The vast majority of people are actually outraged over the score card, and they are not 'bivol fans' Nice try with that bias, but you need to stop projecting. Go on youtube, literally every single pro fighter or expert said the score cards were a joke.

There was controversy over all the early rounds (first 4) going to Canelo. Doug Fischer, the editor-in-chief of Ring Magazine, is calling for those judges to be investigated. It's not gonna happen but that's what he believes should happen. Same goes for the rest of The Ring's ratings panel that were there ringside covering the fight. Bivol did outland him in each of those rounds yet the judges gave Canelo all 4 of them. It's suspicious to say the least. Mike Coppinger had an issue with it as well. These are respected journalists and figureheads of the boxing industry that were actually there ringside scoring it themselves.
