Elections Canadian Federal Election 2019 Thread

I don't care who wins anymore as long as that loathsome cunt Trudeau isn't re-elected. What an utter disgrace he has been, these past 4 years have been the first time in my life that I was ashamed to admit to being Canadian.

Both those parties are guilty of all the things they accuse each other of. They are both in the pocket of big business and I doubt the Cons would have handled the issue any differently if the roles were reversed.

Oh yeah, it's the same old bullshit either way.

What I find concerning is when our mainstream media is taking sides - and it's not proof positive that they are in this case, but I do find the timing a bit suspect.

They seem to have a separate article that focuses on all those who were in the top claimants list, and then this one crafted to attack Wilson-Raybould specifically.

Jobs in journalism have been declining country-wide for years. Now you have one candidate who hands out $600M for a "media bailout", and another candidate who you know isn't going to give you dick. You can understand why people would raise an eyebrow at this.

For the debates, I'd like to hear more about how chocolate milk saved Sheer's son's life. This will decide the vote for me.

so who here is queer for scheer?

Scheer has my vote. As @Fatality posted, I normally don't care which party gets in because it is usually the same bullshit under a different party name, but I fucking hate scumbag Trudeau with a passion and I want the goof gone as PM. He takes everything that is disgusting about politics and dials it up to 11.

The Liberals would probably win by a landslide if Trudeau stepped down.

I'm torn between voting Con or voting People's Party for the lulz... I just found out there's actually a PPC candidate in my riding.
which riding are you in?

I won't vote for Con, and I especially will not vote People's Party

I'm not keen on Trudeau either but I've identified as a federal Liberal for most of my adult life. I will give a serious look at the Green Party this time around.

Anyone else find it kinda funny that they're launching an attack on Wilson-Raybould, who as we know is probably the biggest boil on Trudeau's ass, a month away from the election?

In the article, they mention she's the only non-liberal on the highest travel expense claimants, but there's no criticism of those conservative MPs - the article is aimed exclusively at Raybould.
Probably because "Wilson-Raybould claimed more than any of her former cabinet colleagues" and "In comparison, the entire 34-member federal cabinet — not including Wilson-Raybould — claimed $421,504 in designated traveller expenses for their spouses over the course of the mandate...On average, that breaks down to $12,397 in claims per cabinet member."

Quite the stark difference, dontcha think?

Many do, but I would say many more really hate the idea of the Cons winning, and the Liberals have no viable alternative.

The NDP is a disaster. It’s been a disaster for a long time, bit it’s wrecking itself now, and it’s not showing any sign of slowing down.

The Greens are the alternative, but they’re going to be the alternative to the previously loyal NDP crowd (not the really nutty ones, but the ones just Left of the Liberals).

I won’t be surprised at all if the Liberals comfortably win this election. The NDP is done in Quebec, which means it’s solidly going to be in Liberal hands, and Ontario (ie Toronto) will be as well.
It will be interesting to see whether the vote splitting affects the left* or the right* more. Will Bernier draw more votes from the Conservatives than the NDP and Greens draw from the Liberals? I think it's going to be too close to call right up until the end just because that aspect of the decision is so volatile.

This is absolutely true.

The number of Canadian doctors setting up shop in the U.S lately is insane. Some have their own practice, though I believe most prefer to work in the big name hospitals.

One conversation with them about the family doctor's salary in Canada and it became obvious why they bolted.

Like, how do you seriously going to pay off your medical student loan with $30 patient visits, really?
The starting wage at a hospital here is well over $200K for a doctor, more for a specialist. And in my province in particular, the cost of living is quite low, relatively.
Depends what type of doc. A family doc who runs an efficient practice will net close to $200K.

Many specialists will earn $600K and up.
Right. If you can earn more elsewhere, fine, but you won't be poor here, that's for sure.

First thing Based Conservatives did when they won back Alberta this summer was drop the carbon tax as promised. Gas prices went down like 20 cents overnight.
you seem pretty clued up on local aberta petrol prices for a trump voting american, hmm?

What is your issue with the story? You don't think Trudeau is an out-of-touch, Arrogant, Elitist, Millionaire?

I suppose that, like the video you didn't watch, this is a story you didn't read too, is it?
Or perhaps you just don't care that it's obviously a Conservative smear job.

"On Monday morning, New Brunswick Conservative MP Rob Moore issued a statement indicating Trudeau's gesture is not enough.

The statement, titled "MP Rob Moore doubts sincerity of Justin Trudeau's response to Canadian charities," said, "Justin Trudeau ignored the Grace Foundation pleas for repayment for four months, and only when embarrassed in the media has he now claimed he will 'make it right.' Canadians simply don't buy it."

A spokesperson from the Prime Minister's Office said the Grace Foundation is based in Moore's Fundy Royal riding, however all listed addresses for the charity are in neighbouring Saint John, which is represented by Conservative Rodney Weston.

Weston's parliamentary office said Tuesday Moore took the lead on this issue because Moore's constituents also are served by the Grace Foundation, and because Moore was the MP who first became aware of the problem when one of his constituents brought it to his attention.

Moore, in an interview Monday, said he found out about the letter a board member wrote to Trudeau asking for a refund on Wednesday of last week. The letter was given to him by a constituent, Judith Baxter.

Baxter is on the Grace Foundation's board, although she didn't write the letter. Her husband, Glen Baxter, is on the executive of Moore's Conservative riding association.

On CBC News Network's Power & Politics Monday, Moore said there were likely Liberals and New Democrats on the Grace Foundation board as well, and "just because one of the members is a Conservative" doesn't mean there is a conspiracy.

Moore condemned Trudeau for billing speaker's fees to charities, saying, "We look at the list of some of these charities, the whole business model seems to be built first around Justin Trudeau getting a paycheque." However, he said the only charity he's heard from is the Grace Foundation.

Dominic Leblanc, a Liberal MP and childhood friend of Trudeau's, told reporters Monday, "I think he's [Trudeau] raised the bar on transparency." LeBlanc pointed out, "He's gone further disclosing his parliamentary income than probably any other MP."

When he decided to run for the Liberal leadership, Trudeau stopped his paid public speaking engagements and released details about his inheritance from his father, former prime minister Pierre Trudeau, and the amount of money he made from public speaking both before and after he was elected MP for the Montreal riding of Papineau"

PPC only 1 worth a vote IMO

Yes... HER (former) cabinet. I think you're missing the point here. I never argued that it wasn't newsworthy.

There were conservative MPs who claimed more. Yet Global found it #supernecessary to create an article detailing the entire story... and then another article specifically attacking JWR.

The timing is quite convenient for the Liberals... or would you disagree with that? :D

which riding are you in?

I won't vote for Con, and I especially will not vote People's Party

Won't specify what riding I'm in, but will say that I voted for the Liberal candidate in 2015 (who won by a landslide). Not going to happen this time around. Cons for me.

You can post all of the Trudeau apologetics you want. I'm not voting for the disgusting scumbag.

I'm also from a very Liberal riding although it did switch to NDP in a recent election. Not sure what side it'll sway to this time around.

National Post:
The Green Party is so tolerant, Elizabeth May can't even talk about her Christian faith
While May’s Christian faith would never make me more or less likely to vote for her, the fact she felt moved to apologize for discussing it sends up red flags

May was giving an interview to the CBC’s Vassy Kapelos. Kapelos asked the Green leader who her personal hero was. May answered, without hesitation, “Jesus Christ.” And then she apologized, and said she had answered without bothering to self-edit. Kapelos obviously had follow-up questions, including why May felt that she had to apologize for her religious faith.

May bizarrely answered that it was because the Green party was a tolerant and diverse place — “inclusive and all-embracing” — were her exact words. Shouldn’t that make it easier for the leader to discuss her own sincerely held moral positions?

If she [May] does not see the absurdity in insisting that the Green party is too open and tolerant a place for her to express, in pretty mild and unobjectionable terms, that she has faith in the Christian Saviour, I’m not really sure that says anything good about either her, the party she leads or the notions of tolerance and inclusivity as embraced by Canada’s political left.
