Beatles
Eagles
Grateful Dead
AC/DC
Kiss

Whatever you say gramps

The best argument for any band being overrated is that they aren't.....

Besides Can of course.

I also hate Lady Gaga. I feel like her songs were not good enough so she just got famous by wearing meat dresses and stupid shit like that.

The most cringe song of hers is that edge of glory song.

It sounds like something out of the 80's, like someone pitched it to Madonna in 1988 and she said "this song sucks" so it sat on the shelf for 25 years until our taste in music has fallen so far that it could be made into a hit.

I may be old but could roll you like an ant BC Ilistened the GD

Queen was overrated--until they were validated here -

Actually not that far of a parallel,

Gaga and Madonna did their first few years/records as look at me, don't listen to me...

Then after garnering enough of a fan base it was on to, now imma try to be what I've always wanted to be... A respected actor

Agree kind of on Nirvana. They’re great, I don’t hear many these days claiming they’re one of the greatest ever. Kurt himself was pretty open about not thinking they’re incredible musicians. That being said, they propelled the Seattle grunge sound into the mainstream. And also, despite its simplicity, the unplugged album is a masterpiece.

You lost me on Queen. They’re phenomenal musicians.

Agree on Foo fighters. That first album is all I choose to remember them by though. It’s a straightforward power chords 90s rock album, but if you dig that sound it’s as tasty as it gets.

I always figured Kurt sobered up for a few minutes, actually listened to the songs and killed himself.

Nirvana changed an era. Their music was new and fresh combining punk and power chords. I can name 10 great tunes just off the top of my head. Bleach, Nevermind, and In Utero, plus Unplugged is a hell of a resume before the dude died. I get its now cool to hate on that sound, but being alive when it was taking place was unique and amazing, and has not happened since...this was a movement-attitude, fashion, sound.....Were they the best musicians, nope. Didn't matter.
Queen are Legends....Live they were insane. I do not think they are over rated, In my childhood I knew people that did not like them. 3 songs is just ignorant.
Foo Fighters-They have softened up, but give them credit for staying around in a world of gay rock like Maroon 5 and Ed Sheerhan.

As a guitar player, we all hated Nirvana back in the day because they basically dumbed down the guitar until basically even today if you think about it. Not a whole lot of guitar complexity came out of mainstream rock after they got big and took over.

Now that I'm older, I will say this. Try and write a simple 4 chord song that sounds as good as anything Nirvana did. Guarantee you can't write a melody that's close to as catchy to even any of their mid level hits. Seems easy but it's not. Kurt had a knack for writing melodies. Even Dave Grohl who is a pro himself said he just sat back and let Kurt do the work because he was way better at it than Dave was.

Now I think bands can be good but overrated as well. Pearl Jam is one of them. They had one and a half good albums and then I don't think they've had a single memorable hook since the song Better Man.

Jay Z. I'm from NY and the amount of people that put him as GOAT is ridiculous. He isnt that great a rapper, and his songs can be down right corny at times. So many better MCs out there-Rakim, Nas, 2Pac, Biggie, Kane, it is what it is. People like to call him and Beyonce the King and Queen and that is all Bullshit. I never liked one of her songs either.
Agreed until you got to Pearl Jam. Commercially they didnt have those hits as music changed but they had the songs. The Entire Avocado Album is a beast. And after Better Man you had Evolution, Faithful, I Am Mine, Life Wasted, World Wide Suicide, Just Breathe, Sirens....and these are just me riffing lol...

I mean... different strokes and all that, but:

Rush
AC/DC
Black Sabbath
Foo Fighters
U2 (also, their lead guitar player calls himself "The Edge", which is just absolute cringe)
I can agree about Rush, FF, and U2.
But to me AC/DC and Sabbath are top 5 all time.

Kill 'Em All
Ride the Lightning
Master of Puppets
And Justice for All
Black

And numerous other songs. I know it's trendy to hate on them but damn.

Nirvana for me. Grew up in the 90s. Nothing spectular or different than other grunge bands.

Death Magnetic is really good. I know that they're not their songs but Garage Inc is awesome

I don't really listen to rap but Jay-Z always seemed awful even to me.

I don't know if I would call their songs safe. They were kind of like the rock version of 2 Live Crew and sex hop when it came to songs like Love Gun or Lick it Up. I mean definitely tamer and less explicit than 2 Live Crew...or Prince for that matter...but still not all that safe in glam rock terms.

They don't have a whole lot to say with their lyrics otherwise in the vast majority of their material. But it's not like they were pretending to be badass while singing Stryper songs.

Anyway, which song do you think is their decent one?

I would call Kiss the first hair metal band. Back in the day, hair metal was called pop metal. Most hair metal groups in the 80s were really influenced by Kiss and Van Halen. It doesn't age very well though

I thought Alive One was good

Ten is the only album of theirs I give a shit about.
