Can we Stop with The "Next" Conor Mcgregor silliness???

Every time a fighter is slightly exciting, produces a great knockout, or uses his mouth to promote himself or a fight, they are called the next Conor.
Currently it's Topuria, Garry, Sean O'Malley, Paddy, etc. Hell, I've even heard broadcasters called Joe Pfyfer, Ricky Simon and Alexander Hernandez the "next" Conor.
I don't care if you love or hate Conor, but the dude is clearly a 1 of 1.

No. Topuria is not a megastar, and neither is Sean, and neither is Garry.

We will know when we have our next mega stars.

Currently there is no other Conor.
Yeah, none of them are Conor because all those guys are relevant this decade and can actually win fights.

I like Ilia as a fighter but his shtick is pretty much a B run (Mockbuster) of a "Blockbuster" Movie you see released. Pacific Rim to Atlantic Rim, Infinity Wars to Time Wars, etc.

But hey if it's getting him noticed and chatter going it's working. I'll ignore or chuckle at most of the trivialities till the scrap anyhow.

There’s a thousand yous there’s only one of me
Even funnier considering Conor cloned everything from other people. Even his tattoos are taken from some model.

Out of all them Garry and O'Malley might have the best chances, but they won't be mega star like Conor. But both can be big stars if they can keep backing it up in the cage as they both have fairly polarizing persona that the world outside of MMA seem to gravitate to. You need to them to take notice to become a big star.
You legitimately have autism if you think Garry could be popular like McGregor. In the sense that you cannot interpret social cues whatsoever.

Theres only one Conor McGregor . Topuria is a confident young man and I think he would do better by just being himself, but instead he is copying Conor lines and even actions at the press conference. It was pretty lame.

It turned out, even Conor wasn't Conor. Well, perhaps he was for ten minutes.

It’s funny the barometer for polarizing fighter is Conor McGregor. The guy who punches old men, attacks competitors with dollys, has numerous sexual assault allegations, and hasn’t won a relevant fight in years.

When you got guys like GSP who was also a two division champ, also a low level movie star, an all time sportsman in an out of the cage, and well liked by media.
…not to mention he believes in aliens and the guy loves dinosaurs.

You made Conor sound very exciting while describing GSP like a boring bland person.

The UFC will never spend millions carefully promoting and picking fights for a fighter specifically to break into a newly emerging english-speaking market the way they did with Conor and proto-Conor, Bisping, because a market like that doesn't exist.

Sage Northcutt is the next Conor McGregor.

the “next conor mcgregor” would need to generate his own hype and become a media phenomenon in his own right, in such a magnitude that mcgregor achieved. to date, no one has come close. it’ll probably be harder to achieve going forward now that media companies have started asserting themselves as gatekeepers of popularity. i doubt conor mcgregor’s star power would be allowed to grow so large if he emerged in 2024.

i predict the “next conor mcgregor” will be some woke, mixed race guy who posts memes on social media and plays video games. he’ll have middling performances in the cage, but the media will overblow everything he does, and many fans will eat it up. as long as he wins (controversially or otherwise) he’ll be violently shoved down everyone’s throat. nobody will dare criticize him for fear of being cancelled or harangued by an army of conspicuously bot-like twitter accounts. of course, the next conor mcgregor, like all pro athletes these days, will act as a sponsor for whatever political or economic interests prop him up. overall, the trajectory of the sport is that everything will be less organic. just be happy that you got to experience it before the 2020’s.
