You forget it takes two to make a fight. If Conor was to fight a nobody, who'd care ? The UFC has most of the top talent and fighters that fans want to see him fight. The fights that people buy are the ones where a fighter has a good chance of losing . Aldo, Khabib, and Diaz weren't a lock. Who'd care if he faced a nobody, Conor would be expected to win= no intrigue .


Conor needs the UFC if he fights MMA. Much more that the other way around . Stars will always come and go. The UFC did pretty damn well before Conor . They'll do well without him. Someone new will come along . Like when Chuck retired everyone said the UFC is gonna die . Then GSP came along ...

Conor sells under the UFC brand. Conor sold under floyds brand. Theres no evidence hell sell under his own brand. Lets see him take on the responsibilkty and potential financial loss

He is already there. He could promote his own fights against LW's who would try to escape their UFC contracts to pursue fights with him. He could also simply wait out fighter contracts and then engage them when they are finished with the UFC. He doesn't need the UFC except for the fact that they have such a stranglehold on MMA talent.

If he beats Khabib though... anything becomes possible. He could even do a fight against an old worn out BJ Penn and do good numbers.

At the very least, several fighters would leave Bellator and not re-sign with the UFC in order to associate themselves with McGregor promotions.

Starting his own promotion is the quickest way to bankruptcy. He'd probably be paying less than the UFC and you guys would call him greedy trash.
