Can McGregor's brand grow to where he no longer needs the UFC?

Like Dr. Phil grew bigger than Oprah or Steve without Jerry or Mayweather making his brand as big as possible without the constraints of another promotion?

Or is the UFC gonna do well without the cash cow?

I'll make my stand here. The brass lives without and of course that's plain to the eyes as the sky is.

But can McGregor go out there, compete for his own brand and start a promotion, that would ideally compete against the UFC, but handle the weight of that?

This is where I say maybe? The guy is a hard worker, is like a magnet of attraction and can hang with the best in his respective weight classes.

Dream big and think realistically with your opinions because it's truly not out of the realm for McGregor to do so and has done so.

I think the only way this happens is if he boxes exclusively and I don't see that happening for a variety of reasons.

    Floyd destroyed this

“Dana!? Me n you got money!”

Conor is just a super wealthy fighter and we’re not used to that. No NFL player despite millions n billions of worth and far more recognition and name have not been bigger than their employer

He and they r just employees that happen to be rich, the employer is the boss and that many levels richer

    Not a knock on McGregor

Maybe once he gets out of his contract but i doubt it. Lot of MMA fans are short sighted , hell be forgotten about eventually.

Would not be fair to play this into the argument as part of it.

Only if he starts a promotion or some other high profile business venture. He won't be like a Kardashian, famous for being famous. He just doesn't have that broad appeal.

Most people outside of a vocal minority on Sherdog have no desire to see Instagram pics of Conor in underwear sporting pinnerdick.

An uncensored reality show would be interesting. I've known party dudes with spending impulse control (serious coke habits, massive bar tabs, strippers/whores galore) I'd like to see how much he drops on yay, alcohol, and chicks on a big night out.

The difference between MMA and boxing, is that boxers don't generally have exclusive contracts with promotions. Whereas UFC fighters have exclusive UFC deals and can't fight in another promotion. I can't really see Conor starting his own promotion and trying to compete with the UFC for fighters... it could maybe work as a one-off fight with someone but not as a consistent promotion.

That's like saying could LeBron's brand as a basketball player grow if he left the NBA. Well no... because all the other best players are in the NBA and he needs them to compete against.

mcGOAT already has a promotion and co-promoted the biggest fight of all time

UFC hasn't done over a million ppv buys since 2016

His cross promoting sure helped bring, further into the limelight, his style. Sure he'll do well without directly competing against the UFC and for the UFC but some of these guys/gals believe they're bigger than their current situations.

With all his talk of wanting a piece of the brand that is the UFC, it's seeming as if he's not afraid of taking action to acquire some land for himself. After all, some want land to call home, some need it.

He doesn't have the discipline or smarts and too full of himself to let smarter people do it for him

Start his own promotion and become successful? Not a chance in hell.

    Through acting? I suppose.

Boxing is different in the sense that boxing promoters do lots of cross-promotion. Mayweather promotions can start off with just one fighter and cross-promote with other promotions to make events happen.

The biggest MMA orgs don't do cross-promotions. If Conor starts another MMA promotional company, either he gets fundings to poach good fighters from other orgs, or he fights himself.
