Calling car audio experts

Sparky, let's back up a bit.

what kind of music do you enjoy?

0that will determine a great deal of the type of sub you put in.

i did a 2009 silverado a few months ago. i installed a pioneer double din w/ nav, backup camera, JL front components, a JL audio four channel amp and a 10 inch JL w3 sub. i used the four channel amp's front two channels to power the components, rear two channels to power the sub, and since he shopped very aggressively, he got out for under $2k including parts / labor. the head unit alone was about $800. it was a fantastic setup.

my brother just bought a 2012 sierra that i'm going to tear into next weekend.

my suggestion - don't do two subs. do one powerful one that works well in a standard truck box laying underneath one side of your seat. this will allow you to install the amp underneath the other half of the seat. if you have a sub under each seat, in a silverado, the amp will have to go on the rear wall. this will make for a) a more difficult installation but b) most importantly, it makes the amp hard to service and it gets hot as hell back there.

check out #37 in the individual section. strangely similar to my sherdog handle...

I was told that the amp could go in the center of that custom box. ???

mostly rock but some occasional rap.

So you likely want a smooth more musical sub with wider frequesncy reponse so the crossover point is high enough for a smoother transition to the lower bass notes. -not an overly punchy tight one, nor one that has a too loose suspension either (those tend to be for exaggeranted bass hits in slower hip hop).

Would probably listen to this guy.

I think the rule is, all other things equal, doubling your number of subs gives you an extra 3 db. I think with the space constraints you are facing, I would get one nice sub and a nice amp.

yep

so your basically buying something you dont need, not to be a jerk, but thats a little consumerist. Enjoy the things you have around you, even if theyre old and not considered "ballin" by some or "posh" by others.

so if this is the case then why drink anything other than water, you don't need anything else right?

They all advertise that....most of the time that is not the case. You will be confined to a very small amp if anything, whereas you can fit a small tank underneath the driver or passenger side

You won't be disappointed by the Memphis PR's I suggested. They have solid sound quality and output and you can get them for around $70 ea if you shop around. They should fit in your enclosure with no problem and you'll have plenty of money left for a quality amp to push them, and they are superior in every way to the Rockford's that you're considering.

Get an alarm system first. Everysingle person I have ever known that got a sound system put into thier car, has had it stolen. EVERY SINGLE ONE.

Good prices. I did find memphis' for about the same, little higher.

That stuff he linked is no doubt quality gear, but they don't like to be squeezed into small sealed enclosures. They need a big ported enclosure to really shine. Not too mention that those are significantly louder and don't sound as good as the subs that were in the video I posted, so if you didn't like those, then I doubt those soundques would do it for you.

and they all have one thing in common - you.

i'd like to get in on this.

So, I picked up 2 memphis 10's, a custom enclosure that fits under the back seat, and an Alpine V12 amp for 340 on craigslist. I pretty much checked every place in town and I was looking at 700 no matter how I sliced it. I am going to install it myself tomorrow.

seems not too bad. what's the rating on that amp?(max watts output)

this may sound bad but I didn't even look. The guy had it set up in his chevy silverado and it sounded great. I guess that is what matters, right?

as long as he didn't have any problems with it you should be fine. I have an Alpine V series rated at 100W but we are sure it probably pushes more than that. i have a couple different sets available to throw in my caddy this summer. i have 2 10s or a single 10 with the Alpine amp. i'll probably go with the single since the magnet on it is huge and it pounds pretty good.

Have you put in a system before?

I have put in a quite a few but mostly in the 90's. Pretty simple really. RCA, remote, power.
