All of the 'Newsom just ended his political career' chat is laughable because his career was basically over anyway.
He can't run for reelection. He's already on his 2nd term as governor.
It's obvious he wants to run for President and even before these wildfires his chances are low due to how horrible of a governor he was. But in four years that could be covered up with favorable talking points and ignoring unfavorable facts.

So whatever chances he now has on the national scale are now down to zero, from the 5% to 10% they were before.

But who knows. Perhaps Newsom may want to run for Senate. Before you conclude 'he has no chance' his approval numbers in CA were high and then he won the recall-election with 60%. Any election in California against a Republican he's the odds-on favorite to win, and we all know why.

So Newsom's career may be over... unless he wants to be one of CA's senators.
