Elections California bans voter ID

FFS, I can't get this reply right haha.

But lol at Dave Min being mentioned considering what he did.

Republicans keep pushing for voter ID because they know a lot of people in the Democratic base do not have valid ID's.

The scare tactic they keep using is that there is widespread voter fraud or illegals voting - which is simply not true.

Why is it so hard for the Democratic base to get a valid ID? I got my Driver’s License renewed the other day and it took roughly 30 minutes.

Your DMV isn't every person's DMV in the country.

Can someone fact check me on some places having to show up to renew a licence?

Well your picture has to be updated for one dumb dumb. So you think people keep the same picture on their Driver’s License for 50 years? You really are one of the stupidest people who’s ever walked the earth.

Okay even if it takes 2 hours sit there and wait like a normal person.

And there is also no widespread underage drinking since we stopped carding people for booze. Derp.

California has the highest number of illegals in the country and like 30% of the state is foreign born. I know, let's just have them pinky swear. Actually I take that back, the DOJ sued the state Virginia to keep who checked the box admitting to not being citizens on the voter rolls, after the state gave them 3 times to find out if it was a mistake and they said "nope, no mistake, I'm not a citizen". Probably because blacks can't get an ID, right?

Why? Theyre not expensive and even if you don’t have a car bus routes aren’t expensive either. It mostly comes down to they don’t want one just like they don’t want to work.

The most common form of government-issued ID are driver's licenses and so the people who are most unlikely to drive, as it is, is elderly, the poor, people who live in big cities, like African-Americans, especially young people, too, especially if they attend college. They may not have need for a car at the moment.

And then people who are in rural areas. The other challenge for them is they are not near the Department of Motor Vehicles offices, etc., etc. where you would get these IDs.

The voter ID laws are 100% trying to get less people to vote. Standard dirty politics similar to gerrymandering.

You can get a basic ID the same way you get a Driver’s License. And sorry Chief I don’t think you’re attending college without a valid ID. Once again bus routes aren’t expensive, make a day of it if you have to it’s not like you’re working any kind of normal job without an ID. Obtaining an ID would be step 1 in bettering one’s life. IDs generally only have to be renewed every 4-8 years. Youre telling me these people don’t leave the house for 8 years lmao.

It should be required - if you want to vote you have a lot of notice to make the time to obtain one. Everyone in the world knows when the voting takes place. They all had time. People need to take some personal responsibility. It’s not asking a lot at all. It’s very basic.

The people who don't have ID are not college students. They're poor uneducated minorities and elderly people.

Why did you say “young people too, especially if they attend college” then? IDs generally only have to be renewed every 4-8 years. Are you telling me these people don’t leave the house for 8 years?

You do know about 45% of young people don't go to college right? It's even less for black and Latino and other minorities.

Fucking hell it's the same song and dance in all these voter ID threads.

Judges have consistently ruled that demanding voter ID via legislation is illegal because the implementation of the rule is broadly to prevent people voting, not because it's effective at solving the supposed problem of people illegally voting in elections.

The rules are often blatantly targeting groups of people that tend to vote dem and exclude/include forms of ID to have the largest effect on the numbers of people voting.

It's a fairly transparent attempt at disenfranchisement. You'll note that it's never coupled with an attempt to provide the registers voters with an ID free of charge, thus meaning it will be an expense people have to incur to stop them from doing something perfectly legal.

I'm in a heavy red state and you have to renew in person every other renewal. So every 16 years in person. They are trying to change the law to expand it to every 20.
Everybody I know poor or not has an ID.
Most states will give an ID for free (avoid the small fee) if you check on the sheet that you can't afford it. I've never heard of them asking for proof, it's so insignificant of a cost for the state to absorb
