Brunson V Cannonier for the title eliminator?

Why does Cannonier deserve a title eliminator? Cannonier, Vettori and Costa are all in the same boat if you ask me.

Sure, Cannonier has A win...over Gastelem since his last loss, but he didn't lose to the champion like Costa and Vettori did.

Brunson is the only one deserving of a shot at Adesanya at this point.

the poopy thing is that Jared had a title shot after he beat Hermansson before the pandemic, but Izzy ended up defending against Romero. Romero was, of course, more deserving because he’d just lost to Costa.

Based off of how the ufc books fights, that likely won't happen. You probably know this already.

Yes Cannonier still has that freaky former heavyweight strength and he's shown good takedown defense / ability to get back up. I have a hard time seeing Brunson being able to pin him down and manhandle him like he did to Till & Holland.

That Hermansson fight convinced me that grapplers at MW are gonna have a hell of a time dealing with Cannonier. Speaking of which, Brunson vs Hermansson would be quite intriguing.

If Brunson wins, it’s a tough rematch to sell. He could fight Strickland vs Rockhold winner.

It's not hard to sell a rematch with Brunson at all, some of you are overthinking this.

1) Bad blood / trash talk
2) Brunson's resurgence after losing to Adesanya
3) Adesanya's wrestling struggles vs Blachowicz

Very sellable. Let's not forget they just sold Adesanya / Vettori 2 with bad blood / trash talk but also the narrative of Vettori "becoming the first ever Italian champion" when most of us knew he was going to get outclassed hard, as well as Vettori's narrative of "I really beat you bro!" regarding their first fight. So Adesanya / Brunson 2 wouldn't be too hard to sell despite how easy it was for Adesanya the first time around.

I don't get your logic. Costa and Vettori are always at the top because they lost to the champ? Vettori lost to Izzy twice, so he is not in the title picture AT ALL. Costa flopped and embarrassed himself. He's not in line, he was in line and bottled it.

I don't understand your logic. Vettori and Costa just lost to the champion, whereas Cannonier has never fought Israel so he would be a fresh matchup. Besides, he is way more proven than those two, especially of Costa whose entire standing is based off of one fight with Romero.

Jared's performance against Whittaker was also good, who knows how that fight would have gone had he not broken his arm. Meanwhile your boy Brunson was dismantled by both Whittaker and Adesanya.

Not saying Brunson doesn't deserve the TS mind you, but him and Cannonier are pretty close. Moreover, no matter how you rank them both are going to have sit on the shelves for at least a year (and more if Whittaker wins because for sure they'd give Israel an instant rematch), so having them fight makes a ton of sense.

I think this is the most reasonable match up to book. Till is a big name and a big win but reality is he hasn't done anything (yet) at MW, and tbh his ranking isn't justified. He hasn't had an impressive win since the Cowboy fight 4 years ago.
