What can I say he would have never got nominated for an Oscar for this type of movie.

Not even Alan Rickman got nominated, which he should have.

Bruce Willis is just perfect in this role. Can't ask for a better protagonist.

10 in my books.

Completely changed the Action Hero Trope. Until then, most Action Heroes were in the mode of Arnold, Sly etc: near-Superhuman killing machines who could wade through armies of Mooks and shrug off injuries that would kill any normal man.

Willis played the Blue Collar version. He wasn't a highly-trained Special Operation veteran. Hell, he wasn't even SWAT; just a Detective. Sure, he was tough and could fight, but he wasn't John Rambo or John Matrix.

Willis spends the first part of Die Hard just trying to hide and stay out of the way. His natural reaction isn't to go in guns blazing but to call the LAPD and wait for back up. It's only when he's left with no other choice that he reluctantly steps up. And it takes a heavy toll. By the end of the movie he can barely walk, and he has to rely on Powel to save his life.

Oh, and it's the Greatest Xmas Movie Ever Made. ;)

Wow very well put. Couldn't have said it better.

Really overrated movie that I think didn't age well but his performance was still great. Not 10/10 great though

He put all he had in it. It was the role noone wanted for him and thought he would bomb . To most America he was the slapstick funny guy from Moonlighting. He gave everything he had an he blew up after.

How in the world is this film overrated? It is one of the best, if not the best action movie of all time. Great characters and development. Great protagonist and antagonist. Great SP/FX. What more do you want out of a move lol?

A solid 9. Great everyman hero and wonderful tale of family at Christmas time. Rickman was the true MVP of the movie though, and I feel he was the irreplaceable one.

That really is the keyword and why the John McClane character works so well. He has this attitude the entire time like "why the fuck am I doing this shit?!" He wasn't John Wayne, he did not want to be the hero.

Everyone wanted Mel Gibson but he said no for Leathal Weapon . Richard Gere was who studio wanted after that. But director wanted to give Bruce a shot.

Just like I said. It didn't age too well and was overly cheesy to me. Other movies like lethal weapon, and several Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger movies from the 80s aged much better

I think I am the only one that liked live free or die hard. The one after that really sucked

What if all this sci fi stuff was actually based on real things?
