Broner is an idiot and a waste.

I don't understand the hate Rigo gets, I never saw Mayweather get this type of hate and his fights were just as boring, if he did get into an interesting fight (Maidana) it was because his opponent pushed him hard, it wasn't thanks to Floyd, if it were for him all his fights after the Hatton fight would be UD's.

Anyway, I hope they do to Broner's ass in prison what Maidana did to his face.

A lot of the hate Rigo got initially was just because he broke Nonito's face into pieces and hurt people's feelings. Guys like Fat Dan took it personally and started the whole why we should hate Rigo campaign.

Of course you've heard Floyd get that same hate. This isn't some new thought you just had, almost everyone at one point or another has thrown some shit at Floyd for fighting scared, boring, etc.

Floyd's fights weren't as boring as fans like to talk about imo. Baldomir and Guerrero were pretty meh, I'll give you that. But Maidana, Cotto, Hatton, de la Hoya, Corrales, Castillo, Augusta/Burton, Gatti: these and many more were interesting and exciting fights.

The hate Rigo gets is a little more justified. He's carried opponents he could've gotten out of there, stepped off the gas when he was well ahead.

I simply think Rigo is more talented than Floyd in the way he can shut down every opponent, no matter who it is (coming from the amateurs too, not just pro) so even if he has a monster there, bigger and more powerful than him, he can make it look like a boring fight, while Floyd did have his Maidana/Castillo moments where boxing alone werent enough and the fight turned exciting but not because of him.

Steve Kim jumped on that bandwagon, as well. When two of the more prominent boxing writers (God knows why they are, but whatever) try to push a narrative, it tends to stick. That's not to say that some of his fights haven't been very slow (Cordoba, Agbeko (although it's hard to blame Rigo for the Agbeko fight), and Francisco were all very poor fights), but there wasn't anything to criticize about his performance against Donaire. I remember when Kim was trying to argue that Donaire had no obligation to fight Rigo because he was boring, as well. This is one of the more prominent boxing writers, remember. Completely ridiculous.

I'm a big fan of Rigo, but Floyd had a few of these moments over an 18 year career where he faced far more elite opposition than Rigo has. Rigo did struggle with Cordoba and had a real scare against Amagasa, as well.

It's disgraceful that idiots like those two guys can alter the perception of a boxers career so easily. The fact they hated him for the Donaire fight which was really entertaining both technically and as a fight is just stupid. By the end he was trying to take Nonito out and he very nearly did.

Dan Rafael is a disgrace to boxing "journalism." I don't even like him being considered a journalist. He's a blogger for ESPN.

Shame. As much of a douchebag as he is, I always enjoyed watching him fight. He has so much raw talent and physical gifts, its a shame he couldn't get his head on straight and get with a real trainer.

Seems like it's been all downhill since Maidana beat the shit out of him.

don't think I've read a lot of Kim's stuff, but Rafael is a joke and a half. Absolutely zero credibility

talked to ashley a couple hours ago. he gets a little cranky closer to fight times, but here is what he had to say about broner at the bowling alley, etc

There are groups on this forum dedicated to hating Floyd Mayweather. I don't think one person on here has ever hated on Rigo.
All people want is to see him fight.

Broner gets 30x more shit than Rigo does.

Rigo only gets shit for inactivity and not living up to his abilities.

I think you guys exaggerate the influence that these boxing writers have.

Do you really think Fat Dan convinced people to hate Rigo? That's ridiculous. People watch fights and draw their own conclusions most of the time.

I'm a pretty big boxing fan, and I honestly do not think I even knew who Dan Rafael was before I joined here. I don't read that shit, never have.

Most fans who are not on forums just tune into all televised fights, discover fighters on undercards/small events, and maybe do some research into rankings to know who to watch on YouTube.

How many people base their opinions on Dan? I've never met one. Maybe they are out there somewhere. But I think being part of a forum distorts reality a bit.

Isn't Fat Dan on ESPN? He probably doesn't has much influence as some are acting like he does, but his rankings and criticisms are probably the few sound bites a lot of casuals get.

IDK, I don't watch ESPN, but it is America's biggest sports channel.

Lots of fans read espn, take part in his chats on line and comment on his stories. He DEFINITELY influences a lot of fans with his opinions.

They unquestionably help shape perception especially among more casual fans. Are they the sole or even primary reason that Rigondeaux isn't more popular? Probably not, but they've done everything in their power to push a certain narrative of Rigondeaux regardless of whether or not it actually corresponds with reality. Both wrote articles denigrating Rigondeaux after schooling a top 5 p4p fighter. This was a fight where Rigo threw more punches than Donaire and had him running, just trying to survive in the 12th round. Naturally, what two of the most prominent boxing writers took from this great boxing display and beatdown was that Rigondeaux was too boring. These are writers who constantly make vague complaints about how the best don't always fight the best in boxing, yet both of them pushed the notion that Donaire shouldn't have to fight Rigondeaux because he wasn't a "name" or a "money fight". The fact that either of them make a living writing about boxing is both hilarious and pathetic.

I guess, I just have never heard of anybody taking the boxing "writers" seriously. I guess they are out there somewhere.

But I seriously doubt the influence is what you think it is.
