Broner is an idiot and a waste.

I guess, I just have never heard of anybody taking the boxing "writers" seriously. I guess they are out there somewhere.

But I seriously doubt the influence is what you think it is.
It possibly gets overstated in a forum discussion, but his influence is real. He peppers his stories with his opinions and biases. I think thats a sign of bad journalism.

I hardly even call what he does journalism. He has the level of influence of skip bayless, if skip had 1/50 the air time that he does. He's just a hack.

The influence can be huge with casual fans. The people who don't come here and don't watch as many fights as they possibly can. Which honestly made up a huge portion of Donaire's fanbase. I'm not saying that's a bad thing but almost all the Filipino's I know personally are huge Pacman/Donaire fans and don't really care about anyone else in the sport. So when one of the two fighters they care about gets his ass kicked and some dude on espn tells them to hate the master cuban boxer who crushed his face they listen because they don't know any better. Then I get to hear these boxing non-fans spew the same shit Fat Dan did and tell me how Rigo is ruining boxing and no one should fight him because he doesn't really fight and he's boring and blah blah blah.

I do not believe that Donaire's fans had to hear Dan Rafael tell them to hate Rigo. That really doesn't make any sense to me. Maybe someone like that is out there, but I have never met that person.

You could've just said LogicalInsanity and we would've all known what you meant.

Dan Rafael does have a voice that alot of ppl follow.
A more casual fanbase that likes him, but he is the head boxing writer for the biggest sporting website in the world, so people definitely listen to him.

Dans medicore to me. Sometimes hes an idiot sometimes hes all right.
But Kevin Lole is fuckin trash.

How do people feel about Brian Campbell?

honestly, I think Iole is better than Rafael. Don't really know much about Kim. Doug Fischer is knowledgeable (at least about boxing history) but he says some (read: a lot of) dumb things just out of spite. IDK much about Campbell.

I honestly get more insight from the people here than i do anywhere else.

same. I don't agree with everybody here, but having people like Jay, NAC, Sinister, Seano, PUO, Zapata, RR, PBI, even XC when he's not being a dick (among others), had me learn a lot about the sport

Seano, Nac, Jay, RR, Puo, PBI are all good
Wilddeuces, if im correct on the name, is very good at breaking down fights coming up.
The Greatest seemed like a guy who doesn't follow much modern boxing but is very knowledgeable on the history of boxing.
I came right after the Consortium/Sharkey situation but apparently he was considered great to some posters and absolute trash to others.

Consortium was a very knowledgeable poster he was just a know it all and that annoyed some people.

Dan Raphael is probably the greatest thing to happen in boxing journalism

Big Dan is usually the first to break the news and he has great connections with both Showtime and HBO.

Big Dan is also very honest to his fans

he writes fluff pieces for HBO and Showtime and still gets beat to the punch by others half the time

He's about as honest a writer as you are quality a poster.

Who knows how much money he really had based on this. And just because you get a million doesn't mean YOU get a million a fight.

If he had money this will go away. It's a clear he said she said case.

And he has to pay his people, management. Taxes etc
So even if it is a million a fight there is a whole lotta money that goes elsewhere

lol @ Skip Bayless references. This thread is straight savagery

Big Dan even has his own chat on Fridays where he answers literally every question.

He is the Ariel Heywani of boxing.
