Your ancestors (to be fair, they're my ancestors too, since my paternal forefather immigrated to the US from Scotland) were colonists that subjugated and destroyed Pictish culture, replacing it with Irish/Gaelic culture. So your culture was built the same way American culture was: an older culture (Irish/British) invaded a country that wasn't theirs (Scotland/America), subjugated the local people (Picts/Native Americans) and over time developed their own culture over time.
