  • NBA 2K21 will cost $59.99 on PS4 and Xbox One, but $69.99 on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
  • This is one of the first upcoming games we’ve seen that won’t offer a free upgrade to the next-generation version, perhaps hinting at a new standard price for PS5 and Xbox Series X games.
  • If you want to play across generations, the NBA 2K21 Mamba Forever Edition will include both versions of the game with the same console family for $99.99.

Not surprised I expected more companies to follow as far as requiring you to purchase the next gen version instead of it being free. Not sure if all games will be 69.99 guess will see.

I suspect many people will complain but honesty I'm surprised it took this long. I remember growing up nearly paying the same for an experience that lasted 2 or 3 hours. These AAA games cost a lot to produce and I think it is only fair to pay a bit more.

These sports games are filled with microtransactions and paywalls. You pay full price and then you pay on top of that. It's a complete ripoff.

It's true though. The price of games has hardly risen in 25 years. But, the DLC and microtransactions have been quite the cash cow these days.

I'm talking in general, I don't play sports games but I wouldn't have a problem paying 70 for something like Horizon Forbidden West

Why do we expect games to always be the same price with inflation rising every year? Its taken long enough, but I doubt many will follow suit. Its too risky. We're in an age where people will not think twice about spending 1k on a phone but cry out in agony about a 599 console lol.

I wouldn't mind seeing free DLCs that come along with that $70 hike.

Yeah, but that ain't gonna happen.

Don't expect the developers to cut down on microtransactions either.

Doesn't bother me. I remember paying $60 for Super Mario 3 on NES back in the early 90s. Games are still a really cheap form of entertainment. I rarwly if ever buy new games anyway. I will probably wait till games start to sell for cheaper before I buy a next gen console.

Games have been 60 for a long time. While I am not happy about it, it certainly is no surprise.

Oh hell no. Back in the day, the video game market was miniscule to what it is today. Publishers also don't have as high manufacturing costs considering how bare bones physical releases are and how often people go digital for games these days. Don't pay more because they don't deserve it. Fuck 'em. They load games with microtransactions and then want to play the old "support the creators" card. Nah.

If anything, publishers should start funding more smaller games launching at cheaper prices. They all want GTA/COD/Fortnite/PUBG sales and money yet somehow didn't realize most studios don't have the time or the talent to re-create those kinds of games.

If $70 is the new norm, I'll probably never buy a game at release now. I don't need new games and I already have more than I'll probably ever get to play.

Now I'm curious if new PC games are going to be $70, or PC games that are also released on consoles.

A phone is infinitely more useful than a console
