This is certainly true, but one cannot deny the current smear campaign is smart. The Chinese are blocking and not being transparent. I think the lab hypothesis is probably not true, but establishing this narrative could be designed to make the Chinese cooperate.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Sunday there was "enormous evidence" that the coronavirus pandemic originated in a laboratory in Wuhan, China, echoing a claim made by President Donald Trump earlier this week.

"These are not the first times that we've had a world exposed to viruses as a result of failures in a Chinese lab," Pompeo added, pointing at China's "history of running substandard laboratories."

Though highly critical of China's handling of the matter, Pompeo declined to say whether he thought the virus had been intentionally released.

Speaking at the White House on Thursday, Trump also claimed he had seen evidence that the virus originated in a Chinese lab, ratcheting up tensions with Beijing over the origins of the deadly outbreak.

"Yes, yes I have," Trump said when asked if he had seen evidence that gave him a "high degree of confidence" the virus came from the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

The US president declined to give specifics, adding: "I can't tell you that. I'm not allowed to tell you that."

I have been to China and if you want to live in a metro, it is as expensive as any in the u.s. If you go to a rural area, it drops off but that is like comparing rural Oklahoma to San Francisco. You have a country of 1 billion people and you want to stare at the Podunk section.

People shouldnt get hung up on it coming from the lab. Last year, there were job postings in Wuhan to study bat corona viruses. So, they were studying it in a lab. Big woop. There are bunches of experts that have come forward and said that it wasn't a weapon due to it not performing as expected as models would indicate and if someone wanted to response something, there are clear methods to use to weaponize a virus. The virus is acting in a manner that doesn't align with what present scientific models would indicate. It likely got leaked from the lab accidently or from a rumor that lab animals were being sold to the market. China likely at worse just had poor containment protocol. It had happen on other countries so it wouldn't be a first.
