Boxing gym HELP!!! Seattle,WA

I don't know if this gym is still operarting but it is somewhat centrally located and has a history of pro and amateur boxers training there for the past 30 years or so.

Hillman City Boxing Gym

(206) 722-3239

315 N 75TH St, Seattle, WA

thats been closed, the owner bob jarvis is still around in some capacity. the thing that is hard if not impossible for any young fighter is being a responsible person with school or work and travelling to a decent gym, always been tough.

nick jefferson from tacoma boxing club just won the national championship. besides him, they have two other guys on the national team. one light-heavyweight and super heavyweight.

ya, doesnt surprise me even though i havent seen any of their ammies in about 30 years. Ive been meaning to start going to some fights.

robert shannon trains tuesday and wednesday out of his garage. on thursdays he has guys spar/train at MKG, in northgate, which is more of a TMA not an MMA gym. he was at MMA gym before but the guys he trained decided to take over the boxing instruction. yikes.

oh. how about summers boxing up in arlington? that is a quality program.

I read up some stuff about Summers being in camp with Robert Shannon at his time along with Ali, sounds like he was a promising fighter!!

Summers is 20 miles away from me, putting it together travelling 40 miles/day ends up being alot of money spent just on gas!! Would be awesome to find someone around me who travels to a club everyday so we could alternate driving :icon_idea

i think 2-3 times a week at a quality gym is better than every day at a not so good gym. there is also a free weekly boxing meetup in seattle if you can find it.

there was a gym in south park too, heard it was good, drove by it today but didnt try to go in. the good gyms are in fucked up neighborhoods usually, its the way its always been though. what part of town are you in? what age are you? maybe i could help you train but youd still need a gym, not for the equipment, the actual equipment portion of boxing you dont need a gym but you do need other things, finding those will be the key.

I know it's not boxing but Matt Hume's AMC Pankration is down in Kirkland. It's an option if you can't find a boxing gym.

no, i used to train there, unless you want everything done at a snails pace and not learn any good boxing then dont go there.

There is a good boxing gym off Broadway and Pike I wanna say...there was another one down on pike street, tucked away in an alley...I think that one closed down...

then there is one down Rainier ave...towards Columbia City.

See, I'm in Bellingham and the pro guys from my gym go to AMC to get ready for fights.

Im in Mukilteo which is like between Everett and Lynnwood to say, I think i'll just wait until i get a proper job so i can afford gas and go downtown to one of the places i guess. Im 21 .Does anyone have anything to say about this place?

well, all i can say is that beggars can't be choosers. if that is your only option, then it is your only option. go for it.

hey, didnt know you were here in seattle. funny thing about the one you mention in the alley, it did close, but, i sparred the guy a few years before i visited this gym, i went in and asked to watch, he told me no, but i recognized him and went back and reminded him who i was and he was friendlier. also, yes, there is a boxing gym on broadway run by a woman, i wouldnt recommend that, it looks to be more a boxercise place. Ive known the woman for years, she did fight pro, i dont know much about how she runs things so I cant really recommend her, (im kind of a chauvinist too though). I swear to god, youll spend 95 percent of your time chasing bullshit if youre not careful, ive done it, lots of sincere fighters have done it, it gets real frustrating real fast.

the gym off of broadway and pike is seattle boxing studio.

the gym on rainier is either hillman city, which closed a while ago. or it could be credit boxing, but the owner retired. i'm not sure if it is still operating.

the lady sold the gym. new ownership and management now. seattle boxing studio is what its called.

not for boxing i hope, if they are boxers they are piss poor if they go to box at amc to get ready. amc also cost about 150 these days, a common price for mma gyms, theyll stick you in large classes and forget about you, take forever to set up fights. they have a rep but when youve been there and known all the disgruntled fighters who leave them youd stay away.

I was thinking about asking one of the trainers at the proper gyms (eg;tacoma boxing club) for some guidance ,maybe one of them will be kind enough to direct me to someone ,they should surely know majority of their competition out there

hmm, thats interesting, still probably a boxercise place, problem is all these places these days only care about getting your money, they dont give a shit about anything else. if i were a trainer id do it different but i dont have the time or money to be fucking around in that business, wish i did.
