Both Charlie Olives and Islam are Overrated Mega Thread

I want to see him defend the title against Dustin and see hwo it goes. I feel dustin is the best LW in the world currently. If charles beats him, I'll put more respect on charles name. The LW division is really close in parity so anyone can win any given night but I was happy about the result of the fight. I picked charles and it was nice to know my armchair analysis was somewhat right. I knew chandler wouldn't be able to withstand his combinations. I knew chandler's speed was overrated. It was a great result last night. I'm happy he won the belt. Congrats to him.

I think Dustin has a pretty good chance of taking the belt from Oliveira and for transparency's sake I will probably favor him if/when that fight happens, but I wouldn't at all be shocked if Charles manages to defend from Poirier. Even if he does lose to the Diamond, I don't think that his stock drops all that much -- especially if the fight is competitive. With Khabib's departure, I think Lightweight is in such a state where the belt where be on "hot-potato" status for the foreseeable future. I don't see any given potential champion in the next few years -- Do Bronx and Dustin included -- racking up more than two title defenses at most. The only one who might have the potential to break this trend is Islam if he proves to be as dominant as his mentor and training partner, but only time can tell if that proves to be the case. But between Dariush, Chandler, McGregor, Gaethje, Poirier, and Oliveira, the top of the division is a shark tank where longevity and legacy is by no means assured.

Just my two cents.

Charles been whoopun ass and taking names since he was 20 yrs old. Yes he lost some but who the fk doesnt? He has honed his craft and now in 2021 is champ and for a DAMN good reason. Olives is a champ we all deserve. Id personally love to see him fight Conor! The dude has earned everything good coming his way and he did it the HARD way bruv
Perfect wording, my guy. People here love to “analyze” fighters without ever having fought themselves. Lol

I agree with that. There's more parity. It wouldn't surprise me if charles won against them. I just want to see it before I go out and say he's the best LW in the world.

Truth, a lot of people round ere haven't fought im sure. I don't judge, but when it comes to the lifestyle of a guy like Oliveira, been grinding foolz heads for YEARRSSS & no love or hespect?? Lol

Oh, absolutely, I'm totally with you on that. Anyone who says that somebody like Poirier or Gaethje don't have a chance against him are out of their minds IMO, so by default I don't think we can assuredly say that he's "the best LW in the world, bar none". He never got tested against the Eagle and hasn't been tested against some other top contenders.

I'm just saying that I think it's a bit bonkers to be clinging to the "overrated" descriptor at this stage like TS is and that I personally feel that he has justified elite status alongside a couple of other guys in the division, regardless of whether or not he turns out to be capable of beating them or not.

It's gonna be hilarious here in the next few months with posters pretending that this guy with his 8 losses is some kind of GOAT contender. Conor walks through him any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

-Teymur 5-0 before Oliveira apparently retired him. Should have been ranked top 15 if guys like Nate werent still ranked at the time.

-He destroyed Lentz like nobody else has including the likes of Chad Mendes & Islam. Lentz btw 10-5-1 at 155 lbs in the UFC.

-Whooped Lee, who didnt have staph & didnt even try to make 155, much more impressively than RDA & Tony. A Lee that was more technically sound than ever under Firas & had just smoked top 15 Gillespie.

-Dominated Tony everywhere, especially on the ground which is more impressive than outstriking him.

-Gordon & Giagos both have winning records in the UFC, not exactly bums.

-Did a lot better vs Brooks than Chandler, who everyone wants to see fight for the belt.

You can literally pick apart anyone's resume of you have enough hater in you.
Lol. Owned by the mods.

Overrated or not, the lightweight is so messed up right now after the departure of Khabib.

The idea that people get called "journeymen" because they have more than 5 losses is ridiculous. Charles is a great champ and will definitely be active.
Seriously, this "undefeated" mentality is what ruined boxing.
Its funny because even by boxing definition, journeyman wouldnt be a proper characterization.

Gaethje didn't demolish Tony, he gradually took over a fight that started out competitive, great win though. Oliveira dominated every second of their fight.

Gaethje changed who Tony Ferguson is, in that fight.
Then Ferguson dropped his next two. Just a couple years ago, Cucuy was thought of as champ material who could possibly even beat Khabib. And that was a different Ferguson.

History will show, that a pre-Gaethje Ferguson and post-Gaethje Ferguson are real.

@moosaev you keep saying do Bronx is overrated but what are you basing the standard on? Perhaps it is only you who is overrating him.

he holds numerous records in the ufc per the mmajunkie post fights statistics article

he just beat a 3x Bellator LW champion and a guy who wrecked hooker... the guy who went five competitive rounds with Poirier.

dominated Tony Ferguson

subbed Kevin Lee

is the new lightweight champion. If anything I think he’s getting better with every fight and this is him at the beginning or middle of his peak. Clearly a top fighter in the weight class with only Poirier and maybe Gaethje worthy of discussion with him.

McGregor is the one who is overrated and I would put him at #4 based on accomplishments in the weight class. His resume is the weakest of the 4 of them.

Listen up kid! You saw the fight Saturday correct? Straighten the fuck up man straighten out your back! Olivera proves it in the octogon period.

Look at this supposedly "great" win streak. You compare this to Gaethje, Poirier of Khabib's recent records and its embarassing. So tell me again why Olives deserves to be mentioned in their category? Chandler has a stronger case IMO.

Tony Ferguson: I think everyone agrees he's washed and Olives picked the bones off the carcass that Gaethje already ate

Kevin Lee: Most overrated LW of all time probably, lost 3 of his last 4.

Nick Lentz: 3 fight losing skid, already lost to Islam Makachev before Olives got the sloppy seconds

Jared Gordon: lol, no comment

David Teymur: Dude hasn't fought in over 2 years.

How did Chandler and Dustin do against Charles? Typical Khabib Stan insecure about a stylistic NIGHTMARE in Do Bronx
