My wife and I used to read a ton of Dean Koontz books back in the day. We'd buy 1 copy, then "fight" over who got to read it first. Usually, we'd take turns. But I'm a much faster reader than her, so I'd be way ahead of her then have to wait for her to catch up so we could talk about it. It was fun.

Just finished Shinto The Kami Way. It was much better than Shinto The Way of the Gods, but it wasn't a very interesting read imo.

I got them both because I realized I didn't really know anything about Shinto. After two books on the subject, I still feel like I don't know much about it. It seems like your faith while practicing Shinto would be very dependent on which shrines you lived near since they mostly all are meant to house different kami. It seems like an interesting religion, but one that is hard to understand without living it.

not a Koontz fan but read Hideaway after seeing the movie....was pretty decent.

I haven't started the new trilogy yet. But Abercrombie is absolutely one of the best new authors in the fantasy genre to come out in the last decade or so. His First Law Trilogy and the 3 follow up books are some of my favorite reads ever. I'm going to pick this set up soon.

I feel like the new trilogy beats them all out. Even though it takes place 20ish years after the 3 stand alone books, it weaves old characters in with new so we'll. There was a few times where I was pretty sure I knew what was going to happen, just to have everything flip to the point I found myself wondering where it could go next. I really want to go back and read the whole series again just to see how all the pieces were moved into place.

Read a bunch of Koontz when I was younger.
Intensity was a good one.

I like Koontz but i do find the endings of some of his books can leave something to be desired.

I haven't read all of his stuff, but I haven't found any true clunkers yet. But his Odd Thomas series is fantastic.

Just finished this yesterday and it was fantastic. Closed the loop up nicely, some loved characters didn't make it, some got what they had coming, some of the outcomes surprised me, lots I didn't expect, and while it resolved the trilogy it put in place the seeds of future content. Sad it's over.
Is this the new trilogy with Glokta’s daughter?

Yeah, she is one of the major points of view along with King Jezal’s son Prince Orso, Dogman’s daughter Rikke, along with a few other kids from characters introduced in the stand alone books. The whole series was fantastic and ended great.

Ok cool. My wife is currently reading that one. I’m reading the first law trilogy over again. Looking forward to reading that one next.

Have you read the stand alone novels? There are some major characters and events discussed that you would be scratching your head at.

I had always heard that the stand alone s were good, but not as good as the main line trilogy, but I enjoyed them just as much.

I’ve read three of them. Best served cold, heroes and Red Country. Out of those three best served cold was by far my favourite.

Nice, Best Served Cold was my favorite too. The follow on trilogy has Shivers and Black Caulder as pretty major characters and if you hadn’t read the stand alone novels you’d be missing a ton of back story.

Reading Irvine Welchs Porno, that Sick Boy is slick, cant wait to see how Spud fits into all this. Also reading Dubliners. First books Ive read by Joyce, pretty impressed, usually i dont care for book written from back then

I'm listening to the first Dune audiobook. I never got through my paperback copy, but I always meant to.

It's pretty damn awesome, even though the audiobook goes from narrator doing all the voices, to different voice actors with some sound effects, it's a bit jarring.
