The Arcane Casebook series by Dan Willis is HIGHLY recommended. Set in a 1930's where magic exists, Alex Lockerby is a P.I. - Sam Spade or Philip Marlowe, if they could cast spells... him interacting with his mentor, there are just the barest hints of Archie and Wolfe. I read the first 6 books in like 2 weeks. The pages flew by, excellent stories. Waiting on #7 to be finished written. The books are only like $5 each on Kindle. If Wolfe (Goodwin)/Spade/Marlowe with magic thrown in interests you, get this series ASAP
These look very interesting
How long are they?

I've never read Green or Stout, but Correia & Abercrombie are two of my favorites as well.

Suggestions for the other two?

EDIT: I was checking out Rex Stout... and all of the sudden your username makes sense.

SRG is my favorite living author. You almost cannot go wrong with anything he’s done. Almost all of them are in series, and most series have some crossover characters. It’s pretty cool. I started with the Forest Kingdom stuff (Hawk & Fisher) and was hooked from book one, although I did not care for the last one (felt it jumped the shark). The Drood series, Nightside, Deathstalker... pick one, or all. The Ishmael Jones is not bad, Ghost Finder was eh but I didn’t finish it yet

IDK page count. Got these on Kindle. Books are like $10-15, Kindle was $5 (and of course I got them instantly). Each has around 32 chapters, but like I said they were very quick reads for me. I finished all 6 in about two weeks, and it felt like I never had time to read. If I could have, I would have finished them in half the time. Some really cool stuff in there. I thought the author did a fantastic job blending magic into the noir detective genre. The main character was cool enough I slowly through the series found myself wanting to be him, living in that world (much as I did with Archie in the Wolfe books). I can’t wait for more. The author is in social media and he’s a really nice guy, I’m happy to promote his efforts.

I'm re-reading 'Wizard's First Rule' by Terry Goodkind - I haven't read this book in 15 years or so. I forgot how much I enjoyed it. Too bad they made a Xena Princess Warrior tv show that sucked balls.

After discovering the Sundance/AMC series on Netflix, I've been reading the Hap & Leonard books on Kindle. Good two-fisted Southern-fried pulp detective stuff.

Well, a few weeks ago I stumbled onto the Dresden Files on Kindle and figured what the hell, I read thru book ten (which I finished last night) and got curious as to when they were published/how many there were and discovered they started in 2000 and the 18th was published this last september...feels nice to know I won't need to hunt for a new series for a while. This is the first series I've dove into since I finished the Longmire and Jack Reacher runs, and I believe a few new ones of those are out, or will be by the time I'm finished with Dresden....so all works out lol.

For some reason I can't quote you but yeah the book is great and the characterization is way better compared to the one of the movie.

it’s a subtle dark comedy satire on society and people like Bateman.

Currently reading A History of Natural Philosophy: From the Ancient World to the Nineteenth Century.

A good overview of what is essentially the history of science in the western world.

I recently finished The Electric Sky by Donald Scott. Recommended for anyone interested in alternative theories regarding how stars work and are formed. It is written for the general public.

Started Catch 22 by Joseph Heller a few days ago. Got about 30 pages in and put it down.

Started on Dune Messiah instead.

I've loved the Dresden files for years. Have fun going through them. The last couple have faltered a bit, but they're fantastic.

Just started "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare", a true story about a group of spies commissioned by Churchill to wage guerrilla war against Hitler. The group included Christopher Lee and Ian Fleming, author of the James Bond books. Apparently he based a number of his plots and characters on his experience in the group.

Spectre series of books from C. W. Lemoine a former F16 pilot and youtuber I watch.

Fireblood by Jeff Wheeler

I’m reading Hannibal right now. So far it’s my least favourite out of the series.

Finished this and enjoyed it. Apparently there are virtually no other books about the history of natural philosophy written in English.

I'm now reading Who We Are and How We Got Here: Ancient DNA and the New Science of the Human Past by David Reich. About a third of the way through it and it's pretty great. I have seen a couple of videos of talks that Reich has given on the subject, but he is not exactly a dynamic presenter so I decided to read his book and I have not been disappointed.
