Nah. She is trying to kill her father. She realizes he's not her father and can help her find the man who raped her mother. It's more of a "I'll let you live for now" type thing anyways.

Lets be cautious about spoilers not behind tags.

Aaannddd everything he says should be viewed as extremely suspect, because as soon as her 'father' is dead, so is he, or that's what he believes.

Makes me wonder how they're going to do Season 2. Split between Japan & London?

Her stated goal is to kill all 4 of the white men in Japan. Let's say It's just about killing her dad. Great. Tell that story.

The whole series could have started on the boat with basically no difference in that story. She'd be some mysterious samurai with captive on a boat. Completely fascinating intro that doesn't ask me to watch 8 hours of unrelated back story. Same way the first white guy she already killed before season 1 started wasn't relevant to this season. But FFS commit to whatever the story is and tell that story.
 
I know hardly anything about anime outside of Dragonball Z. I recently watched Castlevania and loved it. The new Nocturne show is on my list to watch. I'll check out this Blue Eyed Samurai show, too.

I would say it's been touched on, any of the times we've seen her act like a Woman/Girl things have gone to shit, when all the shite with her parents happened also when she was young/pre meeting Sword Father getting bullied, and then also with her previous Husband and being betrayed.
Perhaps she finds it easier to navigate through Japan at the time as a Man who in most social situations would probably find it easier to just get on with shit unbothered(getting into towns, asking townspeople for directions etc), with her already looking very different to everyone else it maybe keeps her a little more illusive, though I suppose you could make an argument for her perhaps getting thru situations as a Woman easier at times, stealthing about as brothel whore or something, though she does seem a bit too impatient for that, despite the master of Sam Fisher unlocking being another one of her OP skills.
 
Starting it this week with my kid who wants to watch the show.

That was a dream sequence.
Didn't happen.

And I wasn't a fan of how that episode invested half the runtime into events that weren't happening.

The princess had a pretty easy job of it.

Anyway, if she was a man in the storyline, everything would stay the same.

Oh god... you had to mention that.
I didn't mention that when arguing she's a Mary Sue, but only because I didn't want to list too many reasons and seem like its a reason to not bother watching the series.

And its worth mentioning we - the viewer - could see what she's doing, but in reality in a completely submerged corridor there's be no sources of light. So after being completely moved around and in complete darkness, she'd have to find the keyhole and then keep calm until the Deus Ex Machina happens.
 
I loved it. Style, dialogue, violence, sex, pacing, everything. Easiest binge watch of the year.

I haven't seen a ton of anime but often find it hard to get into. This is my second favorite after Arcane, seems France really has something going on there.

The writers/producers are an American & Japanese couple, the female director is Japanese with experience in Hollywood, and the actual production of animation was in France.

But France is really becoming one of those regions of animation that audiences my watch a series purely on the 'Animated In France' label.

For decades Disney & Pixar were setting the standard for high quality animation, but they've become lazy over the years and so much of their movies have had the same monotonous standard over the last 15+ years.

Seriously, the only Disney/Pixar movie in the last 15 years I've been impressed by is Tangled.

France's studios are setting the new standard.


Edit - Still wondering if its going to be ever possible for animation of this quality to be made into a cinematic movie or TV series.



These are from 10+ years ago, so with the advances of computer rendering I'm curious if that'd make it easier & cheaper.

Maybe not greatest show to watch with kid. At least not for me with all the gore, nudity n sex (anime or not) . Unless your kid is well not a kid
 
I'm a few episodes in and it's enjoyable. It's not anime though, it's an animation. Anime is a specific genre and Blue Eye Samurai is an animated series that takes place in Japan.
