Blue Belt beating Black Belt

edit: franki mir didnt have a blackbelt in the beginning and still his grabbling was superior to most of the blackbelts nowadays. blakbelts in bjj mean just like nothing in many cases.

Overeem was said to be a Purple belt back in 2005. This was bruce Banner Overeem too. Shortly after he goes on (IIRC) to win the ADCC Europe trials all by guillotine, and than the next year (again IIRC) proceeds to tap out Vitor Belfort (who was a veteran black belt by than) with a gullotine. Later he gets all big and committed to K-1 but I'm sure even if he trained casually he'd be black belt level now.

Pretty sure Allistairs grappling is pretty formidable. Always tough to say. Can't get a good bead on JDS's ability, but somehow I don't think it's THAT scary.

Does teaching a student pre-algebra before algebra stunt their growth in mathematics? Or algebra before calculus?

He also subbed Igor around that time as well. Igor had pretty good sub defense as well. Though he wasn't a BB. Guy was also freakishly strong

I kinda get where he comes from. He is wrong, as a WB knowing leglocks doesn't help them beat upper belts who know em too.

Are blackbelts only allowed for the relatively immediate performance talented? Good question tho eh?

I've seen so many bbs in judo that can't fight, but they have sooo many other good qualities that should make a judoka.

Should they then be allowed to fight? Good question.:icon_lol:
 
in my perspective, a belt is just a belt. it doesn't mean you are invincible against lower belts. some BB gets submitted and taps in the gym because they are not afraid in trying out things. our professor has always said to throw out your pride. A belt is just like any other belt.

on the other hand, the loss was not during a gym training. it was competition. there's always some small chance that a blue belt beats a black belt but most of the time, it's because the BB was careless. This video was a little different. The blue belt passes him easily without resistance at times, he is flat on his back on half guard, he does not escape the side mount and a lot more. IF he is indeed not on tip top shape, he should not compete. He can hurt himself. some people don't even train when they are sick.

The blue belt was good but he's moves is still not a buchecha or a marcelo garcia in the making. he was doing simple passes without resistance.

Not to discredit the black belt. I believe he's a true black belt. then again, there's always a huge variance in skills. Some black belts promotes faster. I heard Cesar Gracie doesn't give promotion that much. Some doesn't. A black belt can be beaten but in my perspective, not that easy.

I'm not... Jon Jones straight grappling would lose. Josh Barnett has been grappling FOREVER probably as long as either of my instructors but I would still like to see that match.

Or maybe guys like you were holding the rest of the class back by falsely thinking you had it down.

White belts don't know shit; your instructor probably knows what is good for you.

ok, so just because your instructor wasnt showing you x guard and berimbolos you were not able to hang with the blues and purples? damn your instructor!

God damn it, if he only wouldve shown you that fancy black belt technique, I believe is "cross collar choke" from mount, im just a blue so I have never seen that in my life, but I have heard some guys talking about it, you wouldve destroyed all those guys...

Imagine you're teaching a kid to ride a bicycle. It's day 1, he's barely able to keep his balance, and he asks you how wheelie. Would you show him? What would be the point, if he can't even turn a corner yet?

I know you felt like you knew how to ride the bicycle, but that's because in grappling your aren't exactly falling on your face when you're doing it wrong. But, to an experienced practitioner, that is what a 2 month white belt looks like: a kid who can barely stay on his bicycle.

You should have stuck with it longer. Jiu jitsu is not the type of art where moves are restricted to different belt levels. While many schools do divide classes into beginner and advanced levels, the purpose is not to hold back technique, it's to give beginners the time they need to learn the basics. An arm bar is an arm bar from white to black belt. There are just 1000 extra variations up the black belts sleeve.

Those are such low % moves those. You'll never hit those on decent guy.

Though I do have a back take from my guard being passed into side control.

I train with a bluebelt I guarantee could beat both your instructors
