Bloodborne v2, The Hunt Begins

Dogs in this game are pure evil. They've played a role in all the souls games but they really upped the ante this time.

The whip handles them easily...
but since I have used the axe I cant deal with the pack attacks of dogs. You just cant swing quick enough .

Good game. I've been using it as a time killer.

I have never played on of the Demon Souls and related games before. I DO like the challenge but will confess a lot of my deaths just feel too cheap, mainly because either 1) it's a camera fuck up / lock on issue, or 2) when locked on to an opponent I feel my character gets to slow, but if I lock off I can free roam but wind up swinging in directions I don't want / struggle to hone in on an enemy.

So I'm not in love with the game for that reason, but I am enjoying it a lot. I do find it rather tedious and repetitive at times too, though that does make for some intense and gratifying times as well. It's an 8.5 out of 10 for me. I've managed to beat Cleric, Gascoigne, Blood Drained, the 2 Witches in the main quest, as well as the Vicar and some of the first bosses in the first chalice dungeon tho I def should have waited til my guy was more powerful (gave up on battling the flaming dog).

The game changer for me (perhaps due to my lack of experience) was not knowing you couldn't level up until getting an unseen/reaching first boss, that running past enemies was such a viable and common tactic, and starting with a character very low on vitality.

Knowing about those basics would have saved me some frustration.

Damn that thing in the rafters if the hemwick lane barn is a pain in the ass. I can't see him or lock on. Cluster fuck each time.

You mean the guy in the wheelchair?

Fuck Erbitas in a cursed chalice dungeon. Seriously. You can fight the perfect fight and one hit kills you.

No the guys with the glowing white eyes that emerge from the ground.

Ohhh you mean the boss fight. Sorry I was thinking of the barn leading up to the fight.

I hate their grab attack. All the grab animations in this game seem to last forever.

After a little over 3 hours, I finished up The Cleric Beast on two attempts, and Father Gascoigne with one attempt. I feel like I'm finding my grove, especially with the Hunters Axe.

Congrats on sticking with it and not giving up!

How does chalice dungeon summoning work? I'm stuck on a boss and may need some help.

has anyone tried those beast pills?
I take it they allow transformation into a beast .

Defeated Vic Amelia last night. Finished her in a couple of minutes. Fire paper works great.

What's everybody's prefered weapon? I'm still using my Saw Cleaver.

The only time I can think of the camera noticeably hindering me is during the Cleric Beast.

Can't say I have lock on issues either. Sounds like player issues, not game mechanics, which is usually the case.

I would have agreed with you until last night. Died 3 times to the same enemy I've wrecked countless times but I can't lock on to him and the camera screws me over big time.

It's rare but it does happen and it's the only time I ever get frustrated dying in the game.

Like I said, just yesterday I was getting hit by the Cleric Beast because I had no idea where I was oriented due to the camera. It's a third-person action game, it's going to happen. But it's incredibly rare and if you're dying, it's likely due to your play.

I still can't figure out which enemy you're talking about.

Any screen shots or a name?

It is also possible that your controller is getting warn if you use it really heavy handedly. The sticks on the ps4 controllers are moreso in this generation made for needing only a soft touch. There were a lot of "converts" from xbox with this PS4 that were mangling controllers because xbox controllers are made for "rough americans" whereas the PS4 controller is more intended for a finesse feel. I don't mean for this to be offensive, but if you are smashing the joystick it might be picking up more poorly as time goes on.

Another thing I highly recommend is changing the setting to not drop lockons whenever you kill something. This is the way most of the souls games are setup and as you develop better souls skills it's better to think of locking on or not being locked on as "modes you can fight in." Mastery of unlocked combat is pretty important for having an easier time on larger bosses in souls games.

I think that in general most of the issues people face in souls games is adjusting to having to do so many things at once and the general feel of the game. It's very well polished. Much better than any of it's competitors but because of that their expectations are higher and the learning curve can be brutal. You need to be able to control the camera in unlocked while moving/dodging which requires the above skill to really not get screwed in a lot of situations.

Anyways stick with it and you will overcome. Check your controller(s) too.

I usually use the Hunters axe. I love the range when I switch to two handed.

I also use the Kirkhammer. I like the blade when I want a little more speed.

Apparently they are called Soot Monsters. They are not hard really at all, but this particular one spawns in a barn loft and I can't get a lock on him and I can't see him very well without a torch. I'll try the hip lantern tonight and hopefully that will let me lock on to him and still use my pistol.
