PlayStation Bloodborne Megathread, v.4

I attempted Rom a few times and got killed quickly a little to quickly IMO. Looked online and people are saying you should be around 50 for Rom and I'm at like 35. Wondering if I missed another side boss that I should be going for first. Probably wont be getting another chance to play until tomorrow night.
Have you been to Hemwick?

Some turd who evidently has english as a second language was insisting in another thread that The Last of Us is the greatest integration of story into a video game. I don't agree at all and did my best to explain to him that video games are a different art form than cinema, and that while I enjoyed TLoU, it simply has the story joined in tandem with what really amounts to standard gameplay.

Games like Bloodborne and Metroid Prime demonstrate a form of storytelling that can only be done through superior game design- and can only be in a game, an attribute games like TLoU lack. You couldn't evoke the feeling of Bloodborne with a movie. It has to be through the actual playing. Not the scenery or the music, although they contribute, but the actual gameplay.

You could not possibly make a good Bloodborne or Metroid Prime, or even a Half-Life 2 movie (as cinematic as it feels). That's because the plot and story are not in tandem, but fibers of the game.
Out of likes...again

I loved the TLOU 1, and it's def one of the goats of storytelling in a game, right up there with Witcher 3, SOMA, and KOTOR 2. It's hard to rank them, so I just stuff them in a special category lol.

I don't think gameplay is all that important to a great story. SOMA is basically a walking Sim, but few games have left that kind of an impression on me

Dark Souls 1, 2 and BB are in that elite category for sure. DS2 has many faults, but with SOTFS, coupled with the DLC's. the lore/story is good as any any FS game, it just lacks more in the physical design at times. You're def right about being difficult to make into a movie. The games in my first paragraph are far easier to adapt.

Blade Runner 2049 is probably the closest thing we've seen to a From Soft-like big box office film. The world and gorgeous cinematography tell much of the story. It's not for everyone though, but I freaking loved it.

I'm going to be honest, I never heard of SOMA until you mentioned it, and I googled it just now. I loved KOTOR, never played KOTOR2- I'm guessing from your post it's worth a shot.

I'm still bitter as hell about Dark Souls 2

SOMA is fantastic. It's not as scary as Amnesia TDD, but the story and world building are damn near perfection. There's a youtube (live action) series they made in conjunction, def worth watching after you finish the game. KOTOR 2 is better than the first in every way, superior writing IMO. That's peak Obsidian, that and Fallout New Vegas.

I can't remember- isn't the arcane scaling on that a little muted? It scales with something else too right? Is it strength?

I should do a moonlight build
My understanding is that it benefits from strength, skill and arcane due to having split damage. The arcane damage is higher in it's transformed state and the projectile attacks scale entirely off of arcane.

I'll be bumping those 3 stats up to 50 anyway so i can make the best use of some other weapons i want to try.

I'll thankfully get to put some more time into this tonight but not much. Have to much shit to do this weekend unfortunately. Just going to level up my character and see if there are any places I missed.

noticed the hunter at the top of the stairs right before Rom was whooping my ass. I basically had to only parry him which was easy since he attacks relentlessly. I know there was an area in the forrest I missed as well it was a road I didn't take and I'm not sure where it goes so I'm going to take that road as well.

What have you going on this weekend, bud?

Have to do some lawn care and I have to take my car in for service. Addin spending time with my son and wife and I wont have much to myself. I did just get the news that my moms bday is actually next weekend not this Sunday so I will be getting more then I thought. If I can get past Rom this weekend I'll call that a productive one.

Thinking I might just pay someone to do the lawn though.

Best of both worlds would be to mow your lawn with the whirligig.

Awesome and terrifying fight. Got absolutely destroyed not unlike fighting Gael in Dark Souls 3 but somehow emerging victorious in the end. Speaking of which...

Nice one. Unseen Village is a shitty area while the Bell Maidens are alive.

Yea I didn't explore this area much just tried to get through it.

Beat the boss with an old school DS1 strategy I used with plunging attacks. From there beat nightmare boss and then the nurse. They were pretty simple honestly.

I stopped there as I can tell I'm at the end but I suspect there is more I need to do and I might need to look it up. Sekiro had a bunch of secret endings triggered by items and I don't want to miss something big so I'll probably just spoil it for myself.

Saving that for tomorrow though. Wifey is taking the son to see grandma so I'll have some time to play.

That was awesome, two absolute bastards to fight. With Gael I brought in help my first time, beat his ass my second. I'm better at dodging with rolls. On my last NG BB run, I haven't been able to get past Kos. I went deep in the Chalice dungeons before getting taking a break. I really hate those, but I'll be back for you Kos!

As for the boss battle, the Michael Jordan of comebacks

Sounds like you're doing great. You got the DLC? If so then completing the base game will put you straight into new game + and you won't be able to access the DLC in NG+ until after Amelia. Then it'll be even harder.

No dlc unfortunately.

If you're not doing the dlc you may as well just stop playing entirely. You're robbing yourself of the best content in the game if you don't buy The Old Hunters.

Yea I thought about buying it but with all the rumors about a sequel and a remake I've decided it might be best to wait and see. The latest rumors seem to be very reliable this time around so lets hope it turns out to be true. That will give me some extra content to play that's new that way I'm not just replaying the whole game again. I'm tempted though because it does look good.
