PlayStation Bloodborne Megathread, v.4

I've probably got between 500-1000h in Bb and still think Rom was one of the hardest bosses for me on earlier playthroughs (I'm assuming 'this point' means Byrgenwerth, of course). To every hunter his own long night but because styles make fights, you and I must play similarly and in kind share like weaknesses. No summons, brother. Kill. And bring ye old friends bolt and fire, aaayyy.

Yea I'm at Byrgenwerth. Hard to believe he's so hard because I remember thinking it seemed easy but I just couldn't get it done. Vicar and BSB seemed so much more unbeatable at the time. No summons for me. I'm trying to complete this game without using any.

Couldn't pluck up the courage to fight Orphan but did take out Sharky & George and got the Rakuyo. Beautiful moveset and definitely has my interest for another playthrough on top of a ton of other weapons lol.

Got the shortcut ready to the boss so will see how big my nuts are tomorrow.

One of them things but the Rakuyo always catches love-me eyes from Chikage mains, lol. Twinblade class was fun in DSII but this thing is on another level; if you can skew to Skill from Bloodtinge for NG+ (if I'm remembering your build right), it would make for killer Cainhurst cosplay. As a long Reiterpallasch main myself, consider the option co-signed. *brofist

This is my hot take for this game, Orphan of Kos wasn’t that hard. In fact I managed to beat him first try. Lawrence on the other hand managed to take me out once, which is more than I can say for Kos.

A hunter must hunt, and hunt i did. Orphan Of Kos has been put to rest. I used all of my blood vials but being on the edge like that brought out the best in me and i was able to beat him. After that i took down Laurence who isn't a very fun fight at all but it needed to be done.

I then proceeded to munch some umbilical cords and faced Gehrman who i expected to be a pushover due to being levelled for end game but he was nasty as fuck. His speed was on par with Maria and his damage was insane. After besting him i came up against Moon Presence and managed to die twice to it's unavoidable "one shot" before realising that it was reducing my health to about 1 and my Chikage was killing me.

Third time is a charm and i survived it's attempted one shot by switching my weapon to normal then healing, sheathing and unleashing pure devastation.

Just like that i had beaten Bloodborne and got turned into a squid.

Alright I'm going to play this again. Going for an all out dex build with BoM and Burial Blade. As dumb as this sounds I never kill Eileen, I just think she's too awesome

Rom is one of those situations where having one other person, if only just to be there as another target, makes the fight extremely manageable. Same thing with the Shadows of Yharnam, to a lesser extent I think but the same principle.

Gascoigne was in my opinion the hardest fight for a first time play through. The way he just constantly came at you, never yielding for even a second was terrifying. After the cinematic and you walk in, he's closing in on you before you can even get a sense of where you are.

One of the best games ever made

I paid my respects to the late Kos.

Gonna jump into new game + and have a mess around with some new weapons. Anything to know about NG+ or is it the same but bullet sponge enemies? Any priority for stats?

@method115 how goes your hunting?

I think i didnt enjoy playing this thru twice because there wasnt much more to level up.

I think i got the best gems for my weapons, i cant level up my hp anymore, and i didnt want to use many more weapons than the boom hammer and ludwigs great sword.

Perhaps my dark souls 3 torture will grant me a better run through of bloodborne next time.

Enemies have more HP, hit harder, and give more Echoes, standard NG+ stuff.

I use it as a time to start messing around with new builds and weapons.

One thing that is in my opinion so well done that we don't really even notice, is the seamless transition from what appears at first to be a typical Werewolf/Hunter motif, into what is in my opinion the absolute best representation of Lovecraft horror. When you play through it again you notice these little things but when I first played, I had hidden myself from youtube videos and previews. The things that you notice and yet puzzle you, the things that don't really fit into the Vampire/Werewolf hunting scheme, remain in your head and accumulate. It's only when you get close to Byrgenwerth that the game directly confronts you with its subject matter. But it's not a jarring transition because the game has been gently and increasingly poking you with these elements the entire time. It's not an "ah-hah!" moment, it's "OHHHHHHHH OF COURSE" moment.

Not unlike the theme of the game itself--- godly wisdom and revelation to mere mortals

Also just the architecture of the entire world is beautiful. The way everything is connected in a grand and yet somehow down-to-earth manner makes the game real to you. This has got to be Fromsoftware's best game ever

I'm using the moonlight sword in my new game at the moment. The damage wasn't great at first but i used my other life's treasures to get it to +9 and i had previously bumped my arcane to 40 when i was doing chalice dungeons for discovery. I don't have the ideal gems for it yet but i might run some false depths when i get a chalice.

I used Ludwig's guiding moonlight to guide the Cleric Beast to the land of silly dead Cleric Beasts so NG+ is going fine so far.

I attempted Rom a few times and got killed quickly a little to quickly IMO. Looked online and people are saying you should be around 50 for Rom and I'm at like 35. Wondering if I missed another side boss that I should be going for first. Probably wont be getting another chance to play until tomorrow night.

The world/environment is a great story itself. It makes me laugh when people say it has a poor story. It's just told differently, and if you feel it's poor, you didn't notice the epic tale all around you.

I don't usually enjoy playing through a game twice, and certainly not right after I finished playing it, but there's so much to discover about the world and the characters in Souls games, and I'm not even talking about item descriptions, or youtube lore videos (deep rabbit holes). On top of experimenting with different builds, I've never enjoyed playing through games again more than in FS's masterpieces. Hellpoint was right up there for me too. I can't wait for the DLC in that one and learn more about the universe.

I love cutscene heavy games too, but there's something extra alluring about leaving much for the player to piece together.

I can't remember- isn't the arcane scaling on that a little muted? It scales with something else too right? Is it strength?

I should do a moonlight build

Some turd who evidently has english as a second language was insisting in another thread that The Last of Us is the greatest integration of story into a video game. I don't agree at all and did my best to explain to him that video games are a different art form than cinema, and that while I enjoyed TLoU, it simply has the story joined in tandem with what really amounts to standard gameplay.

Games like Bloodborne and Metroid Prime demonstrate a form of storytelling that can only be done through superior game design- and can only be in a game, an attribute games like TLoU lack. You couldn't evoke the feeling of Bloodborne with a movie. It has to be through the actual playing. Not the scenery or the music, although they contribute, but the actual gameplay.

You could not possibly make a good Bloodborne or Metroid Prime, or even a Half-Life 2 movie (as cinematic as it feels). That's because the plot and story are not in tandem, but fibers of the game.
