Blaydes on whether he wants to face Jon Jones: " I'm not going to fight Jon Jones for 200k

Tony Ferguson is a great example. They pulled the "just one more fight bro PROMISE" shit with him until he ended up out of his prime. Nothing to show for one of the greatest win streaks in ufc history. And look how many people were just waiting to shit on him when he finally did lose.

Pretty much, the UFC will always try to stiff a fighter of their real worth unless the fighter ends up in a strong negotiation position at some point.

Overeem for example gets paid the big money because Dana fucked up, he thought he could count on JDS KOing Reem and either Allistair would have to accept a small contract or he'd be happy to see him go to Bellator. Overeem pulls off the win in impressive fashion though and Dana is forced to pay him what he's really worth.

I get where Blaydes is coming from, but surely if he beats Jones pretty soon he's not going to be worrying about the 200k he got paid to do it? His life would change forever

It's amazing to think that anybody would pay him 200k to fight anybody. The man is a walking prescription for Ambien.

Blaydes is really good but 200,000 is a good contract for him considering he’s not a needle mover. Just ask for a piece of the PPV and that’s more than fair tbh and this is coming from someone who thinks fighter pay is borderline criminal. I like watching this guy fight but he has about as much charisma as NyQuil chuck

I think I'm with this guy.

Nice little battle going on in this thread and I can understand both sides. Realistically whoever steps inside a cage with Jones probably deserves more than 200k but at the same time, there's a limit - don't get greedy. And the opportunity (if you get a W) is capable of huge huge things for the future. That, to some people, is worth just as much as the initial cash on offer.

His mentality atm is basically saying "I'm not taking 200k to get my ass whooped".

I like people who value their worth.

I also like Blaydes in general.
Yeah ppl are dumb. Blades is one of the more dominant HWs of our generation and a vibrant main eventer. Damn right he has value , despite some less than exciting performances. Dudes a winner and should be paid like one for a theoritical mega fight with Jones

Its not so much wether its bad pay or not,but if they want to give him such a huge fight it is not wrong for him to ask for more. Except on Sherdog. Where it makes you Hitler on the wrong day apparently!
Its not wrong but tbh if his contract is $200,0000 I don't think its wrong for the UFC to pay him that even for a superfight. I think for short notice fights the fighters should definitely get paid a significant amount more but otherwise them getting what's on their contracts is fine. The problem is that often the contracts themselves are shit.
Its very possible, that is UFC's perogative wether they give him one. He's just puttin it out there, that if they do,he wants more than what his base pay is. Just talkin about it is gettin us talkin about it,so its smart to shoot that into the universe anyway.
You'd imagine him complaining here, whether fair or not, would make him less likely to get the fight.

Well,if he is willing to turn down a fight with Jones,he doesnt really give a shit. If jones is going to make waves and stay at HW,im sure they will have a fight somewhere down the line anyway

Well he isnt saying how much he wants either. Could be reasonable. And I dont like that his mentality should be summed up that "I am going to lose"

But he COULD lose. And then he doesnt get anything out of it. All that work and only jones and UFC benefit.

Part of the problem for Blaydes as well is that nobody wants to see the 3rd Ngannou fight so it could well be that a superfight with Jones is his biggest match.

Vibrant might be generous especially given his recent fight with Volkov, was dry humping at it's finest.

Not sure why hes worried about Jones, big Bones fan but Blaydes would ragdoll him and he wouldn't be able to get back up. Probably Jones' least winnable fight at HW

I hope he asks for 10 million. I want him to price himself out so there is no chance we waste a Jon Jones fight on him.

Again it guarantees nothing. He could lose the fight, eat some olbique kicks to the knees. Now hes an injured HW fighter who lost to a guy who never fought at HW before. Where are the red panty nights lined up for him? oh wait, there arent any. Blaydes is #2 in the div. If he beats Derrick,he probably is going to get a title shot anyway. I wonder how the UFC will try to screw him (Or Derrick) when that day comes.

Beating Jon Jones absolutely guarantees more money. It's the holy grail of MMA right now. Instant stardom. Instant legendary status. Again, not taking the fight because you're afraid to lose doesn't make you worth more money. You're suggesting he shouldn't have to EARN millions of dollars for a single fight. He already makes really good money. He can make $1M by losing 5 times at his current pay level. Why in the dirty fuck should he not have to earn a giant raise? He's not the man. Jon earned his shit. If you beat Jon, you leap frog years of fighting, piggyback his body of work, and become an instant star. You know who's going to get the next title shot? Jon fucking Jones, or anybody who's man enough to fight and beat him. Surprise!

Because his beard is fuckin amazing, alright?!!!?>?

God!
