You call it a weak division why? The only heavyweights in UFC history I'd pick to beat Aspinall are prime DC, Stipe, and Ngannou. That's it. And it's not like Aspinall would have zero chance against them.
And regardless, if Aspinall breaks the title defense record at HW and gets like 5-6 consecutive defenses, he's going down as the GOAT whether you believe it or not.
At the end of the day, people care about numbers. If Aspinall gets 5-6 title defenses and shatters the HW record, he will go down as the HW GOAT.The division being weak doesn’t mean that Aspinall isn’t good, but it does mean that no one will get excited about his fights.
He’s already fought Blades, Volkov, and Pavlovich, Spivac, and Tybura. None of those rematches seem compelling.
Who else is a good matchup at HW?
Almeida, who should probably be at LHW, and already got finished by Blaydes?
40 yo Derrick Lewis?
Aspinall doesn’t have anyone but Jones at this point.

The simple reality is that MMA fighters get better on average as time goes on.
Again, you're so very concerned with the present. You really need to practice putting yourself in the mind of someone 5-10 years in the future. That’s all well and good, he can set a record, and also make no money for himself or the promotion, because no one cares about any other fighter in his division.
If he beats Jones though, the general public will recognize his ability, he becomes a marketable international superstar, and his status as a potential HW GOAT is further legitimized with each defense. Without it, he stays a nobody to everyone outside of die-hard and Brits, and he’s just taking advantage of a weak division.
